I am not sure how long I messed around with it, but sure good 20 minutes, since I ended up redoing it 3 times. I used the normal paint tool and moved the scattering up, and the opacity down, till I got what I wanted. I made a base green background and painted then over it several times with varying shades of green and increasing or lowering the size, spacing, and opacity. I wanted to create a blurry forest background, that it looks like the horse is galloping through two bushes, with an tree branching over it and ambient light source in the upper left corner.
