You’ve been contacted through unnatural means. It’s really different for everyone, some see it spelled out on a foggy window on a stormy morning, others hear it unexpectedly in a large seashell they put their ear to at the beach. The message is, however, the same.

A fate unspoken by the gods, to you it has been designated.
Guide these lost Immortals.

After thorough research, you have found that these “Immortals” are the steeds of the gods; and after a bit of a shock, as it was also delivered rather unconventionally, you now possess a thick tome. The appearance of the bindings and the pages within are different for everyone as well and can be made of most any material…is it rude of me to ask what yours looks like?

Regardless, you find yourself flipping through the pages. Upon each is a very lively (literally) depiction of a horse, it’s like looking at it through a window. Surely it’s unlike any horse you’ve ever seen, but below its living portrait is inked some brief information, which differs on each page.

Under each horse on each page, the information following the headlines varies. A name, accompanied by an “aura”. The “aura” it seems, is the power imbued unto the horse by the sponsor themself, each of whom seems to be a different god, goddess, or other mythological device. As you compare the aura to the horse, it’s clear that the animal’s appearance is affected by the aura it’s been gifted by the sponsor. Well, it’s starting to make sense!

An “application” of sorts is also present on each page, allowing you to submit yourself to take on the fate of the immortal steed. As you ink your submission onto the page, it disappears, likely joining the many others who are doing the same.

With your mission in bold, and a…semi-understanding of what you should do with these horses once you have them, you can now flip through the pages of your book and start assigning fate to these horses of the gods, these Myths, if you will.

Do I need to apply official lore to my Myths?
Nope! The lore is kept somewhat minimal to allow a lot of user customization. What’s written in the intro post is simply introductory lore for the species itself, but as the Myth’s “fate” is yours to control, as is their lore!

Are there assigned genders/roles?
No! Your myth can identify as who/whatever you’d like them to, there are no restrictions here. This will hold true if breeding is implemented in the future, with no gender restrictions on pairings.

What does “fate” mean in the lore?
This is simply where your horse goes and what it does once you’ve ‘adopted’ it! It can stay in an immortal capacity, live on another planet, grow underwater potatoes, or graze on a farm. Their fate is completely yours to choose and develop! Maybe they’ll continue to do work for their sponsoring deity!

Are the mythological deities/devices based on historically recorded ones?
While there may be some parallels and similarities between some of the deities/devices in Myths, you will not find any that are currently existing in a real culture; this is purposeful to avoid any sort of appropriation or misinterpretation of cultural entities/stories! I take all caution in avoiding replicas of such entities and any that may appear are pure coincidence and unintentional and will be amended following any user-made report regarding them!

Additionally, common mythological creatures that have generally been shared around the globe may appear as a general entity and not a named one. For example, the Eastern Dragon is a mythological creature seen throughout various Asian cultures (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) and may appear in Myths as a “Sponsor”, however the Chinese Eastern Dragon God, Ao Guang, would not be named as a sponsor to avoid cultural affiliation out of appropriate cultural context! Likewise, you may see unicorns, gryphons, hydras, etc.

Keep in mind, you’re welcome to develop these as your heart desires, or simply collect them, they’re for you to decide, so these steps are more for those who may wish to develop a bit more!

✦ Create a storage thread, or a group/folder on ToyHouse! You may even want to design a more complex storage using websites like wix or weebly.
✦ Design or describe what your Tome looks like and display it in your storage
✦ Detail the fate of your Myth, where did they go and what do they do now?
✦ Take a look at The Grand Tome, perhaps some of the collected information there can help develop your Myth if you want to continue the official lore!
