In the mist-veiled valleys, where monsoon rains awaken ancient forests, lives a creature spoken of only in hushed songs and forgotten scrolls, Apeksha, the Silent Hope.
Born from the last breath of an apsara and the wish of a grieving forest spirit. A being of both elegance and mystery. Her name, meaning "hope" in Sanskrit, echoes her divine origin. A guardian born to guide the lost, heal the broken, and carry the prayers of those whose voices are too quiet to be heard.
Apeksha walks unseen among mortals, her hooves never disturbing the ground. She appears to those on the brink of despair, a wounded traveler, a mother grieving her child, or a warrior questioning the path forward. She offers no words, only presence. To meet her gaze is to feel one’s soul quiet, as if the universe itself pauses to listen.
Where her hooves tread, scorched earth revives and dying trees bloom anew.
Lost souls whisper her name in the afterlife, and she leads them through the Veil to rest.
She takes sorrow into her shadowy mane, freeing mortals from its weight.
She is honored in a secret shrine hidden behind a waterfall deep in the Sahyadri range. Monks and mystics leave offerings of turmeric, marigold, and sandalwood, hoping for a glimpse of her or a sign that she still walks the realm. The monks teach that Apeksha visits each creature's soul only once in their life time. To miss her is to forgo the chance to be unburdened of one's greatest sorrow. Farmers sing to her during planting season, believing her blessing ensures not just growth of crops but hope itself.
Some say the monsoon's arrival is her doing, a signal of cleansing and rebirth. Others claim her tears are what fill the sacred rivers.
Apeksha can slip between realms on monsoon nights, her form dissolving into mist. Those who follow her are said to awaken in places they most need to be. Sometimes across great distances, other times decades forward in time. Where she walks, sound briefly dies. No birds singing, no leaves rustling. This pause in the world's noise is said to open a space where spirits may whisper for guidance in hopes that she hears them and can lead them to their right place.
Apeksha doesn't travel alone. She is often trailed by silent beings. Translucent, deer like shades with flowery antlers. They are the souls that she has guided safely beyond the Veil who return in gratitude to watch her path. They often decorate her mane with their flowers when she is resting
All the good doing comes with a price. Apeksha's compassion is infinite but it comes with a price. Every sorrow she takes from another becomes a golden thread in her mane. The heavier her mane becomes, the more she bends under its weight. It is whispered among the monks that when her mane touches the ground completely, she will vanish from the mortal world forever, returning the sorrows to their sources.
