Welcome!
You know how a lot of people who haven't really looked closely at a deer will see one and go "that's not a deer it's Something Else"
Yeah, well, these actually are!
In 2015 I contacted Queen Hydra about their old adoptable species, the original Bullet Deer, to see if they'd let me remake them after looking through the earliest few pages of the old adoptables forum. Unfortunately, life got in the way. Fortunately, my art style has improved in those several years!
About:
Odocoileus bulla, or Bullet Deer, are a rare species of deer native to North American temperate deciduous forests and surrounding fields. Stags grow antlers beginning in spring and shed in winter, whilst does grow antlers beginning in autumn and shed in spring. Intersex specimens may grow in either season, may shed and immediately begin to regrow, or not grow antlers at all. They are shorter than O. virginianus, the white-tail deer, with more compact bodies. Their legs are much longer than other Cervidae, allowing them to run faster at the cost of agility. Their remarkably long tails help to balance them, as well as signal to herd members. Along their spines are distinctive scutes, similar to horns or spurs, which help protect them from predators. These keratinous extensions attach to the vertebrae with joints, allowing for limited movements which are used for alarm communication.
Colors:
Despite being a prey species with limited defenses, O. bulla exhibit a variety of colors and patterns. The most common historical colors are similar in that of domestic equines. The first recorded case of a specimen with an unusual coloration was found in 1843- a stag with a dull purple stripe facial marking. Most O. bulla with these mutations were captured as oddities, for farming, or as pets. Specimens with such colorations were significantly more successful at attracting mates- however, in the wild they were easy targets for predators. Since then, there has been an explosion of color mutations almost exclusively in captivity, with the wild population having low numbers of minor markings. Much of the wild population has maintained the species' historical colorations. Many farmers will breed for brighter colors and patterns, as the pelts sell well for those looking for eco-friendly alternatives to faux fur.
Rules:
•Do not claim species or art as your own
•This is a closed species- however, customs are open to be made
•Each Bullet Deer may be payed or free, depending on the artist's choice
•Credit and link back if posting to another site
•There is no limit to the amount any one person may adopt
•Bullet Deer may be sold or traded. The original owner must post after the sale/trade is finalized on that deer's post
•Bigotry will not be tolerated and will result in an immediate ban from the species, with any and all owned deer being confiscated and re-adopted
•If someone breaks a rule, they will receive a warning. Failure to fix the breaking of a rule, if applicable, will result in an extra warning. On the third warning, the user will be banned
Things to keep in mind:
•Bullet Deer as a species are non-sapient- however, there is no rule against having your own be! We have fun here on the sparkledog website ;^p
•There is no limit to the gender or sexuality of Bullet Deer
•Bullet Deer can be given anthro or humanized forms, and can be sonas- but they won't exist in the cannon
•As of now, there is no official breeding. This may change in the future
•In the event of breeding, intersex deer may be able to be sires, dams, both, or be sterile
•Perisex (non-intersex) deer may also be sterile at the same rate
Customs Form:
Customs will never be free- but there is no fixed price at the moment
They may be payed for in any way, so long as it is not against CS's rules. Artists have the right to ask for more payment and decline requests

Artist Rules:
•Artists may only have one payed Bullet Deer for sale at any one time. For every one payed Bullet Deer, an artist must make at least 2 free
•Artists may only make one custom for themselves (however, they may order as many customs as they wish from another artist)
•Bullet Deer payment must never exceed the value of $5 USD. Non-currency items (such as C$ items not currently in the store) are exempt from this limitation
•All payments must be within the rules of CS, as well as the rules of other sites involved.
•Payment must never be traded in for IRL money, even if it is within the rules of the other site(s)
•Bullet Deer based on the designs not of the artist's making (i.e. CS pets, Pokemon, specific paintings) may not be sold. They may, however, be free adopts so long as it is explicitly stated where the design is from.
•Artists should familiarize themselves with the species regarding antlers. Polled Deer (does not grow antlers) ≠ doe, just as antlers ≠ stag. An artist found making only polled deer be does and only antlered deer be stags will be sent a reminder. If the behavior continues, they may be removed as an artist. This does not apply to Bullet Deer where the adopter/buyer selects the gender and/or sex.
•Regarding the sex of Bullet Deer, artists must not be against making intersex Deer. They must also not use other terms for intersex, in order to avoid derogatory words (even unknowingly)
