What are Dreampuffs?
Dreampuffs are magical, fluffy creatures created from especially powerful dreams that can hop from their dream dimension to our own! Most of their time is spent in their own world, but they will cross over to ours to play, comfort, or just hang out with the person they’re visiting. This doesn’t just have to be their creator either: Dreampuffs can visit anyone they choose, though they will have the strongest bond with their creator.
This dimension-hopping comes at a cost, however: Dreampuffs only have a limited amount of power they can use to be in the real world, and must return back to their own to recharge once they run out. When Dreampuffs are resting or injured, they become a small blob-like version of themselves called their “core form,” or a “core puff”. They absolutely cannot be in this form in the real world, as they become very weak, so they must return to their home if they need to rest or get hurt.
Similar to how there are different types of dreams, there are also different types of Dreampuffs that can be created through said dreams! There are three varieties, in order from most common to most rare: Standard Dreams, Nightmares, and Lucid Dreams. Despite their name, Nightmare Puffs are NOT inherently bad or evil, but simply a product of the dream they come from. They may look a little scary sometimes, but they’re actually quite good at helping others confront and overcome their real-life stresses and fears.
A regular, or fully powered, dream puff has magical abilities. They can float whether or not they have wings, and create sparkles and illusions with their horns.
Traits and Appearances
Dreampuffs come in all sorts of colors and patterns! While they (usually) have the same physical shapes, no two Dreampuffs are exactly alike, just like dreams! They’ll have elements of their person’s dream that make up their colors and coat patterns, and if the dream is strong enough, it’ll also affect their physical traits like their horns, fur shape, ears, or tail. These major physical differences are mostly commonly seen in Nightmare and Lucid Dreampuffs.
All Dreampuffs have head and neck fluff, front paws with opposable thumbs, and horns.
For creating Dreampuffs: there are no designing guidelines for what colors or patterns you use. You may use as few or as little colors as you like, and any sort of patterns. The only limitations are that custom things such as atypical traits or major lineart edits are only allowed on Nightmare or Lucid Dreampuffs.
Dreampuff Behavior and Relationships
Dreampuffs are a very social species!
They tend to congregate together in their dimension in little villages and towns. They can be any gender or sexuality, and have any amount of partners.
Due to the nature of their creation, Dreampuffs cannot reproduce; either with themselves, or other species. However, there are currently attempts being made to magically "combine" two or more Dreampuffs' essences to create new Dreampuff "kits" or babies. This is not yet available, but it has been noted that kits coming from Lucid Dreampuff parents will always be standard Dreampuffs.
