Why do they desire the Royal Guard position,
and what training have they gone
through to prepare themselves?

Born into the doctrines and social status of a wealthy merchant family, the expectations for Asra to perform well were to be expected – her family pushing her to pursue intense magical studies, physical extracurricular activities and expected her engagement in the bustling and booming Lumina family business. The Lumina family, most certainly well known around the cities of Paledon, most notably take pride in their hardworking habits and their sense for business and trade – and the family heads expect the same from the younger generations. It both shaped Asra to be dutiful beyond measure, and simultaneously gave her a complex of never allowing herself to rest or be fragile.

.......................

Thus, with her upbringing, every waking moment of Asra’s youth was dedicated to honing both mind and physique. Something which certainly caused Asra to be well versed in the art of the trade, as she carries around a hardworking attitude in her luggage. A skill learned through Asra often following along with her parents to all kinds of business meetings, staying silent as a mouse as she observed; observed how the ponies around her bargained and invested in one another, as the young filly took in all she could about the technicalities and laws the older experienced ponies were discussing as well as their mannerisms and behaviours. A chameleon amongst the elders.

When it came to the hard work of upholding those very standards of her own, they were nothing the young filly ever showed complaints about. Despite some of her older siblings being representative of a freedom-seeking demeanor – some even deviating from the rules of the Lumina family, and attempting to influence her to be more true to herself. No matter what, the dutiful “young’in” always delivered, and worked extensively to make her parents proud, which only paid off as the young mare is now considered one of the best water mages in Paledon. And can be considered no bad flight either, as Asra is both swift and agile – and careful in maintaining her speed and swiftness in the air that she gained during her filly years of training all kinds of extracurricular sports.

.......................

When it comes to the royal family, and Lunare. The roots to Asra’s determination and fascination with the royalty and military of Paledon all started when she was incredibly young, and it would later snowball to be a deeply ingrained dedication towards the royal family – and all of Paledon’s citizens. It started when Asra, remaining as hardworking and diligent as always, was studying for an upcoming test. The young filly stumbled upon an illustrative book on astronomy and the heavenly bodies when she looked through the large library of their summer home. Soon, the pictures and magical drawings of the heavy old leather book drew the filly in as she slowly flipped through the different pages; her face lighting up with the fascinating infused magic the book contained, the pages coming alive and animating before her. The young filly, intent on reading and perusing even more, used her tiny wings to drag it over to the living room – a large thud ringing as she settled into the couch. Completely mesmerizing and captivating the young filly, her love and fascination of astronomy followed her as an interest even when she got older. When it finally became time for the filly to specialize in one or two magicks, she would not settle for anything other than water.
“The moon rules over the tides and ocean!”
The young filly said, puffed up cheeks assisting in her disappointed demeanor. The choice quickly became a discussion, as her parents wished for the young filly to choose something different. It continued on, on and off. The large family debating it in plenum as they were enjoying dinner, and little Asra sneaking into her fathers office during work hours with a tea and some dessert to change the mind of her father.

After weeks of debating and discussing it with her strict parents, they finally caved. Even going as far as getting her multiple magical tutors to meet the tiny filly’s demands – and at least slightly improve her magical capabilities within other fields when she was so obsessed and preoccupied with a singular one. “Better excel and do great“ they said as they offered the best possible means for the young filly to succeed. Something that paid off as the Asra matured, completely and utterly focused and intensely invested on her studies, as it ultimately led to Asra excelling abundantly in water magicks – with her self-studying of astronomical academia and theories only increasing as well. And as the filly turned older, she quickly learned of the control the rulers had of the heavenly bodies – something that instantly became a new source of interest. With a dedication to water magic, Asra had a clear particular like to her favorite of the two rulers – Lunare. The young filly was sometimes even lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the rulers when their family attended the royal banquets hosted by the two rulers for important ponies around Paledon.

.......................

The grandeour and intensity of it all captured Asra. And it is safe to say, that even as a small filly, she never gave herself a break; never allowed herself to falter or fall behind, always utterly passionate and engulfed in investing as much of herself as possible to those around her. Her hardworking mentality never stopped the young filly from helping others whenever she noticed they needed it, even if it cost her time with her family or other friends.

Despite the best efforts the young filly put into maintaining and balancing her familial duties, her studies, and her friendships, the rather isolative mentality of her family brough with it its own downsides. The young filly quickly found herself without many friendships as she never had time. Outside of her family relations with the different business partners of the Lumina family, she never knew many ponies. This led to the mare to carrying a weight of loneliness around with her ever since she reached a more mature age. But in contrast to the mare getting comfortable with solitude it turned to a subtle dread of being lonely and disconnected from her peers. Something that reflected over on her choices in life and became a turning point when Lunare issued the statement for Batponies. Asra’s decision to join the ranks of the Paledon royal guard, and becoming one of the advisors of Lunare, was now cemented as she vowed she would give her utter best and create a place for others to gain friends and deep bonds with those around them.
