ardere has been quiet his entire life, preferring to keep silence and bury himself in his passions and interests. he's always been vaguely interested in the prospect of having a respected, high class job, though for many years the idea of working with royalty seemed highly unrealistic. immediately upon hearing about it, ardere was intrigued by the prospect of being part of the Royal Guard. despite the better part of him agreeing that the idea was so outlandish he shouldn't even attempt it, a part deeper inside him and perhaps more true to himself compelled him to move forward. to the few ponies he keeps around him, there seems to be an endless amount of complaining; wherever any issue or excuse to whine finds itself, ardere is never far; however it never seems to be quite enough to push him over that edge the better half of him so desperately wants him to lean into.

throughout his youth ardere was surrounded by endless amounts of creativity and plenty of loud, extroverted ponies; he often cites the absolute miracle it is that he never mimicked them, lest he become an "endless stream of mindless chatter" like so many around him. he believes very strongly that guards of any kind, particularly guards in important and esteemed positions, should present in a way that is stoic and aloof. if asked he could give an entire formal argument on why this is the most effective type of guard- of course, delivered with not a hint of genuine passion beyond the minimum required to make you believe he's a real pony. because of this belief, he's incredibly proud the way he maintains this already, despite his lack of a guards position. for a while ardere has had a vague interest in the prospect of taking up a guarding job, which led him to a fair amount of training for it; largely being his studying and close to mastering of the element of fire. he found mastering a single, basic element to be the most "professional", and he adored the concept of fire; the way it mysteriously blurred the line between destruction and creation was all too fascinating to him. since his being aware of the Royal Guard position, and in his attempts to pursue it, ardere has driven himself deeper into the element of fire, finding himself lost in his own passions.
