KÜSTENHUNDE
⯁ The Working Dog with Heart ⯁

Information DirectoryBreeding CenterImport Center

Back in the 1970s, Benno Ritter had a vision of the perfect working dog. Despite being called crazy he persevered until his goals were achieved and Küstenhunde [affectionately called 'Küsts'] are to the standard they are today. Much like their creator, these dogs have courage and perseverance in spades. They make amazing working dogs, as the breed was intended, but are also suitable as pets in the right homes.

These dogs need good leadership and lots of engagement to reach their full potential but when they do they are an absolute powerhouse. Küstenhunde bond closely with their owners and are loyal to a fault. Even untrained animals show classic protection behaviors and take to the proper training like they were meant for it. These amazing animals can take on just about any job you can throw at them, from therapy work to search and rescue and everything between. Küstenhunde are the swiss army knife of dogs when it comes to what they can accomplish.

Küstenhunde ⯁ Species Guidelines

Postby j. bourne » Sun Jul 04, 2021 9:54 am

Species Guidelines

Community Rules

⯁ Follow all CS and Küstenhund rules.
⯁ Küsts are a closed species. Only artists that are members of the species staff team are allowed to create Küsts.
⯁ Küstenhunde that have been adopted will have a transparent background.
⯁ Please do not post after an adoption has been closed or judged. It is unnecessary. This includes congratulations and thanking the artist for selecting your entry. This rule only excludes ownership changes, as posting by both parties is required for the ownership change to be considered official.
⯁ Küsts may be repossessed and readopted at the species owners' discretion. This could be for any number of reasons, including being banned, complete inactivity exceeding two years, or deletion of your account.
⯁ Be kind and respectful to all staff members.
⯁ Mini-modding and harassment of the artists will not be tolerated.
⯁ Each Küst may only be bred six times in their lifetime.
⯁ Any change to a Küst must be updated in the appropriate archive.
⯁ Küstenhunde may only be sold by staff members and species owners.
⯁ A Küst may only be traded for other Küsts.
⯁ When trading Küsts, both the previous and new owners must post on the dog's adoption page for it to be official. Trading also requires the appropriate archivist to be messaged about the change so it may be updated in the Archives.
⯁ When trading Küsts that have earned titles and breeding items, the breeding items will stay with the dog that won them. The dog may keep its Arbeitenhund titles when it is traded.
⯁ More will be added as deemed necessary.

Staff Rules

⯁ Follow all CS and Küstenhund rules.
⯁ Avoid favoritism. Consider how many Küsts any one user may have won recently.
⯁ If you will be inactive for any planned period of time exceeding two weeks, you must alert the owners.
⯁ Ask permission from the owners before creating dogs that may be rare.
⯁ Ask permission from the owners before creating dogs that have any edits.
⯁ Staff may import two Küsts each month and are also allowed a Birthday Custom.
⯁ Staff may complete their own customs and breedings as they deem fit. However, they should consider the rest of the community and what breeding opportunities they have offered before doing so.
⯁ More will be added as deemed necessary.

Warnings
Given by the owners and moderators for breaking rules or doing something that may warrant a warning.

None

Bans
When three warnings have been given to a user, ownership of all Küsts will be revoked and all dogs will be readopted at the species owners' discretion. Banned users will no longer be able to: adopt, breed, import, in any way own, or possess slots to any Küsts once they have been banned.

Küstenhunde ⯁ Breed History and Information

Postby j. bourne » Sun Jul 04, 2021 9:54 am

Breed History and Information

The Küstenhund is a breed of canine developed by Benno Ritter in the late 1970s in northern Germany. The old man was considered to have lost more than a few of his marbles by the rest of the dog breeding and training community in the area. The concept of forming a new dog breed seemed preposterous...but Ritter was determined. He envisioned a driven and focused working breed, reminiscent of dogs used in the old days for police, military, and protection work. Other people told him there were many fine breeds for this already, but he continued to work until he developed exactly what he was looking for. The Küstenhund. As a tribute to all those who doubted him, Ritter settled on the name Narrenhaus to continue perfecting his newfound breed. Narrenhaus is considered the birthplace of the breed and remains the largest kennel in which Küstenhunde are bred and trained. All dogs that are available to adopt or have been imported are sourced directly from Narrenhaus.

The Küstenhund is primarily a descendant of the Dobermann, though there are other 'unknown' breeds present as well. They have rather short, smooth coats that are neither particularly coarse or soft. The breed is typically 26 to 28 inches tall at the withers, being no shorter than 24 inches and no taller than 30 inches. The Küstenhund weighs anywhere between 70 and 110 pounds. Unlike most dogs, both males and females of this breed share the same range of height and weight. The average life expectancy of a Küstenhund is 10 to 12 years of age.

Despite being a rather large breed, the Küstenhund does not have large litters. An intriguing combination of low fertility and intelligence causes this breed to only have litters of one to four pups. Some believe that, because the litters are so small, the young are more fiercely protected and thus are better working dogs for protection than other breeds. Küstenhunde also have breeding restrictions in place to keep the line working and clean. In order for a dog to be bred, it must earn at least one of three Arbeitenhund Titles. The more titles your dog earns, the more perks you will receive. These titles are modified from modern IPO. Küstenhunde may also be trained in service or therapy dog work.

The Küstenhund comes in a wide variety of coat patterns and colors. The rarity guide for these can be found here.

Küstenhunde ⯁ Arbeitenhund Titles and Their Rewards

Postby j. bourne » Sun Jul 04, 2021 9:55 am

Arbeitenhund Titles and Their Rewards
Arbeitenhund Titles are ONLY earned through the Küstenhund Discord.

⯁ BH Test [ArbtH-BH] is required to trial for Arbeitenhund titles. There is no reward for passing the BH test.

⯁ Title One [ArbtH-1] is the first level. In order to breed, a Küstenhund must pass this level. The reward paired with the completion of this title is a Puppy Gender Selection Item! This item allows the user sending the breeding to select the genders of all the pups in the litter. This item may be used in only one breeding with the dog that earned the title.

⯁ Title Two [ArbtH-2] is the second level. The first level, ArbtH1, must be passed before this. The reward paired with the completion of this title is a Litter Size Selection Item! This item allows the person sending the breeding to select the number of pups in the litter. This item may be used in only one breeding with the dog that earned the title.

⯁ Title Three [ArbtH-3] is the third and final level. The second level, ArbtH2, must be passed before this. The reward paired with the completion of this title is a Pick One Trait Item! This item allows you to pick one trait in each puppy of the litter. This is limited to base color or markings and cannot be used to request rare traits or custom edits that a parent may have. This item may be used in only one breeding with the dog that earned the title.

⯁ Champion Title [ArbtH-CH] is automatically awarded if all three Arbeitenhund titles are passed with an 'excellent' score. The reward paired with the completion of this title is One Custom Küstenhund Voucher. This item allows you to request one custom dog (to be completed by any artist) with one rare + one uncommon + unlimited common traits [LVL 3].
