Entry #2

Postby I Like Bees » Wed Oct 23, 2019 1:38 pm

Phenotype: Black silver classic torbie with gold eyes
Genotype: ll | BB | Oo | DD | Aa | mcmc | spsp | tata | Ii | ww

More questions:
Without the wideband gene, how does one determine if a silver is a chinchilla, shaded, or smoke?
I typically go by WbWb is chinchilla, Wbwb is shaded, wbwb is smoke (all paired with inhibitor allele).
When a cat does not have the inhibitor allele, WbWb = golden chinchilla; Wbwb = golden shaded.
Is there another system Soft uses, or are all solid silvers genetically the same, and golden silvers are dropped?

Thank you for the clarification, but that wasn't quite what I meant..
I apologize; I should have been more specific in the question.

There are three variations of silver: chinchilla, shaded, and smoke.
If the linked images' differences aren't quite clear, here's a diagram of what their fur looks like:
(Tipped is referring to chinchilla.)

As tabbies, silvers all appear about the same.
(Except smokes, which can be ghost tabbies but not true tabbies.)

Rise links the different silvers to variations in the wideband gene (WbWb = chinchilla; Wbwb = shaded; wbwb = smoke).
With the wideband gene dropped in Soft, I was wondering if all the different solid silvers have the same genotypes (II/Ii aa), and which silver they appear as is just random? Or if there's something else to determine which they appear as?
