Lipphangers were bred to create a high class all around horse.
You may tell by the breed name that the Lipphangers are a cross between the strong and stocky Haflinger, and the beautiful and elegant Lipizzan.
They are most commonly used in Fox Hunting, but preform just as well in English type riding, such as Dressage and Hunter/Jumpers, although, don't be surprised if you see them preform in barrel events and some western pleasure classes.
Known for their calm, gentle and kind temperament, they are great for people from a young age to elders.
They range from 15hh to nearly 17hh, and are commonly referred to as gentle giants.
They were first bred in Italy, and are now most commonly bred in Ireland, and surprisingly, Texas.
They way they got from Italy to Ireland to Texas is unknown, but they were most likely were sold in international horse autions and sold off from there.
Their genetics are fascinating, as they are most likely to be born with Appaloosa like markings, although no Appaloosa breeds are found in their genetics or heritage.
They are also very likely to be born black, grullo, buckskin or a chimera of two of those colorings.
Chestnut coloring is rare.
With the above markings, birdcatcher spots are not uncommon, but can not be found with Appaloosa unless the horse has chimera.
They are well known for their star, snip and stocking markings.
