Pup History:
My paws hitting the ground with a steady beat, I ran as fast as I could. I could hear the raspy breath of the pursuer behind me. Ryuun, you can't hide from me! I didn't let those words stop me, but what did, was a river. Its sharp waters were exploding from the banks, splashing me with cold regret. Why did I do this, I know I'm going to lose! My ears perked up as I heard a shaky voice come from above, "Hey, Ryuun, hide up here!" I peered up, expecting to find a bird, but instead I saw the bright eyes of my sister Cricket. I heard again the heavy breathing of the dog behind me, and scrabbled up the tree. But alas, my paws were no match for the slick bark of the oak, and I slid down. I tried again, but once more, I couldn't hold. I yelled up to Cricket, "Stay up there, I might find a hiding place!" She nodded as I ran away. This time I had a plan. There was a small cave by the other side of the river, and I could hide there as long I like, because I know I wouldn't be found. With a devilish grin on my face I scented the air. Uh oh. I swirled around to find Chali staring at me with bold grey eyes. I found you now! And with that she tumbled on top of me.
I found myself kicking playfully at her ribcage, while she bit my ear. With a fluffy bit of my ear in her mouth she announced, "I win, I win, I win!" I kicked her off my chest and lay down, panting. I heard the gentler voice of my mother call, "Children, its time to eat now. Wash up in the spring and gather yourselves." I was utterly exhausted. After 4 hours of play it was nice to drift into the spring, as it melted away my fatigue and hunger. I shook off and licked down the ruffled bits of my fur. Chali, Cricket and I gathered in a line as our mother dropped a variety of meats and fruit on the ground for us to share. But she froze and growled before we could even take a bite. I was confused, "What's the matter with you today?" She bared her claws ferociously, but I could see her only intention was mock fight. "You're supposed to know common food courtesy, you can't just dig in after your leader spent hours foraging." I rolled my eyes, then muttered, "Thank you mother." And bent down to feast along with my siblings.
