Okay, so this is a prince.
He tried to help his kingdom by accepting an offer from a witch. He can turn anything to gold.

But he doesn't realize the power never turns off..

After scaring the kingdom away, and being abandoned by the king, and his princess, he clenches his chest in grief and is suddenly hit by blinding light of gold. His paws feel warm.. He looks down to see gold rising from his paw tips to his shoulders..

(No, he is not hurt by the gold. He's just frightened.)
