favorite music genre and why: Old Rock because it is very enlightning to her. Her favorite bands are Nirvana and Offspring!

favorite music genre and why: Sal can't stop herself from listening to rock music, mainly U2 and ACDC, with a little Recantaurs, White Stripes, and Led Zepplin mixed in. The genre varies so much, from smooth, calming songs, upbeat ones like Led Zepplin's Ramble On, and harsh, crashing songs like ACDC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. If she wants to hear a long instrumental piece, call up November Rain by Guns and Roses. Want something dark? Switch and the Spurs by the Recantaurs. Need to rock out? Try anything by ACDC. She doesn't like Heavy Metal.

However, the variation is not the only thing that appeals to her. While she was growing up, her father was constantly away for 12+ hours a day at work. The only days he was home was on Sundays. On those special Sundays, her father would remodel parts of the house, since they didn't live in a new home. He would play rock music very loudly while he worked, and he let Sal help him, whether it was sanding down some drywall or holding a bucket of nails for him. Sal never had a good relationship with her mother, who didn't have the nicest personality, often shrugged off her daughter's calls to instead watch television. Those precious moments spent with her father mean a lot to her, as they were the only gestures of love she would be given as a child. These memories were some of the only ones with her father in them, and rock music saturates them, adding a more personal meaning to the genre.

mahna-mahna was cursed with quite an odd name, and quite a few of her friends have asked if she's hawaiian because of it, when in reality, she doesnt even know if it's hawaiian or not. however, assumed to like anything but rock or techno because of her name, she absolutely adores synthpop. though it isnt always her forte, she likes it because of one artist, porter robinson. she found him about two years ago and has loved his music since. ever since she found him, she also discovered people like madeon. their music is beautiful, music to her ears and heart. she's told her friends about her taste in synthpop, and everytime she's explained it, she always had one sentence that was the same, that sentence being: "synthpop makes me feel like im in a different reality. i could be in space, i could be a calm field, oh, i could even be in my favourite cartoon for all i know!" that sentence can start it all, or even end it. she'll go on about how it can be calm, intense, or even as quiet as a mouse depending on how you make it. the varieties, the ideas, the voice actors or even programs used to make it flow together is fascinating.

synthpop to her is like stories, having a meaning behind it. a simple song for example, sad machine, can be about anything, it can be about the end of the world and only a few people are left, it can be about a robot finally meeting a human boy, the ideas can go on for literal hours, everything somewhat different. the songs can be sweet, violent, depressing, there's a whole set of possibilities, but you can decide what it would mean. nobody could bring up a point to counter it, heh, nobody would know the actual meaning of the song, it's just what you'd want to interpret.

another reason she adores synthpop is because it doesnt always use traditional instruments or vocals. the vocals could easily be a program, a real person, and whatever makes that sweet sound can just be the sounds of a computer. it doesnt have to be what everybody else uses, it can be different and still sound amazing. it shows how far technology has come in her eyes, and she loves to see artists who may be seen as obscure or something even "worse" to other people using such a different way of putting their heart into something. using something that's different. and she adores that.

Electro Swing
Ellie's favorite music genre is Electro Swing. She adores it because it's unique. It's nothing like anything else she's heard before. She also loves the idea of it. It's vintage or modern swing and jazz mixed with house, hip hop and EDM. She adore that, plus it's nice to go running to, even if she does tend to dance when listening to it.
