Katali are an odd canine and feline cross species, with intelligence scarily similar to that of a human child. Their silky manes are akin to that of a lion, helping them protect their throat when hunting their main prey - wild boar. They have a rabbit-like nose and long thick ears that can pick up the slightest of sounds, and their legs are long and their bodies lean, giving them a feline type gait and a powerful pounce. Their most unique feature of course is arguably the odd tail shape. Though thick and fluffy at the base, the tip of the tail has a more hair like texture to it, and an awkward bend towards the middle commonly called the 'scrag'. As is custom in Swahili culture, Katali's wear a painted bone-carved cuff around their scrag, usually decorated with beads and feathers, as a sign of their domestic and loyal nature. This practice is similar to the common dog collar with address tags, specifying which tribe or family the Katali is bonded to. They are extremely social creatures who bond closely to their human companions, katali friends, and especially their offspring and mated partners. About the size of a fox, these creatures average at about 40lbs, 30inches high at the shoulder, with a length of 3ft nose to tail tip. They come in a large variety of natural colors and patterns, usually sporting canine patterns, but can be seen with strange chimeric and outlandish markings as well. They have mainly african origins, as the first discovered and properly documented Katali scraggle was found at the outskirts of East African coast. However it was later found that they had been domesticated and bred by the Swahili tribe of Kenya for centuries, hidden away due to their rarity and fear of modern societies. Now however these beautiful animals are quite well known and breeding programs are springing up all over the world, bumping them up from their recently endangered status.
