I use the smoothing tool, it never hurts to use it. I think I put it at like 30-40% maybe? It's whatever you feel most comfortable with really. And of course the opacity of the pen is at 100% to make them dark but sometimes I like to go over the lines that I've already made to make it more pronounced.
