Just before her first birthday Kali had decided that she no longer wished to stay in the territory her family had claimed. She wanted to go of on her own and discover the world for herself. So on the eve of the one year mark she stalked away in the night. Kali remained silent until she was miles away from the boarders. She picked up speed and raced across the distant dessert. After running through the scorching dessert sand for two days she found herself in an oasis. She let herself rest in the peace and calmness for a day before continuing on her journey. She has spent the last two years moving from place to place and learning all that she could. How to hunt, to negotiate, tactical skills, how to fight, work with herbs, and if she ever had to, how to kill.

One Extra: Story/ Laylani's Past

Laylani was the firstborn of her little litter. She was the strongest of the pups, not necessarily fast, but able to fight very well. However, when she was born, she had none of the fantastically colorful markings her siblings had. She was only grey and black, very dull, and very boring. Or at least that's what she thought of it. Her sister Kaliveri, who was not only her sister, but her best friend, would tell Lani she was beautiful and simple and loved. That was of course, right before Kali ran away to make a life for herself. After she was gone, she had no one to open up her heart to, and there was no one else she trusted. Years went by, and she just got more and more closed off to the world. And she never realized that her markings had appeared.

So, when she was weaned, she ran to find a life for herself, just like her sister had. She wanted to find Kali, but she knew that that would never happen, and she didn't want to know if her sister had survived or not in the wild on her own. So, she ran the opposite direction that Kali had went and traveled into the deep forest beyond. She created a new territory for herself, a small, but sustainable area, large enough to have plenty of hunting space.

And then, she met Jay.

The Sunshine Rain
I had been following my father around all morning to no avail. He was up to nothing overly interesting- just his usual morning tasks. Finally growing bored of doing that, I made certain my siblings and mother were no where in sight before wandering off into the pines.

The trees were tall, much taller than they looked from our den. The path made by the raccoons wound through the trees, and I had gotten so absorbed into admiring the beauty of the landscape I was in. I had been gone for hours. Out of no where, thunder erupted from the sky and rain came cascading down through the prine branches.

As quickly as I could I tried to seek out the nearest shelter. The thunder overhead only grew louder, and I grew more afraid. I cried loudly, pressing myself against the trunk of an elder pine. I cried out for my family, for my father, but no one came. I was alone in this storm.

A cracking sound above me cut over the thunder. I had to move. I scooted away from the tree, looking up at the branches in time to see one begin to fall. There was no time to react, not with my tiny legs, and I did the only thing I could. I tense and waited for the branch to break me.

Suddenly and out of no where, I was scooped up and rushed away from the falling branch. Wide eyed, I could smell my father and feel his familiar grasp on my scruff. He had heard me, and he had come to save me.

My father took me back to our den and scolded me for running off. I was still afraid, m heart still racing from my near-death experience. I didn't hear much of anything he said. All I could hear was my heart pounding in my ears. Everything else was just a dull and inaudible mutter.

From that point on, I would never set foot in the trees again.
