What they miss: In the quiet of the morning, soft light drifting through the fog and mist rising from the cool water, a wrinkled hand gently rubs a soft, velvety pink nose. Smiling widely even as his hand shakes and he feels a pit form in his gut, the old man tenderly touches his forehead to the Crowntail.
Onlookers saw few things pass between the silence of the moment; adoration, love, understanding. Solace rumbled softly as he took one step forward, careful and gentle as he lipped at the man affectionately. "Last meeting, my boy. But don't you worry, I'll wait to see ya again." The man said, his voice belying his age and the sorrow of the moment. Patting the horse upon the neck, he reached up his arm, covered with a thick sleeve of a sweater, and gripped at the softly faded fins of his mane. "I'll see ya, my boy. Be silent, old friend. Keep those kids company for me." He spoke again before he turned, the grey speckled stallion blowing out a deep breath as he stood quiet and obedient, eyes watching as the old man was helped into a wheelchair, and loaded into a car.
Looking out from the window, the smile faltered only for a second before breaking wide again. Lifting his old, gnarled and well worn hand in a farewell, Solace watched on as the man was taken from him. He would be obedient, his quiet nature speaking volumes as he stood and simply watched on. As the car disappeared with the lifting fog, Solace turned when his name was called from afar, hesitant for a few moments before headed for the two children hanging from the fence and holding carrots over for him to take.
