Tutela Lutras, or TLs or Lutras for short, are otter-like creatures that act as water guardians; their name translates roughly to "Guardian Otter". They are spread worldwide, anywhere there is water. They are covered in short, dense, waterproof fur, but for their belly, which though equally waterproof, is longer and very soft and silky. Lutras generally take great care and pride in keeping their belly fur well groomed. The bridge of their muzzle and the undersides of their tails also have dragon-like scales on them. They have large eyes and noses, webbed paws, and usually have small ears. They vary in size depending on their chosen home; the larger the body of water they live in, the larger they grow, so Lutras that live in the sea are much larger than Lutras that live in streams. They can be as small as a cat or as large as a great dane.

They are generally either solitary or live in small family groups. They have the power of water kinesis, meaning they can control water with a thought, and are able to breathe freely in water and out. They are also able to communicate with and control aquatic creatures, though most Lutras choose to use this ability only during times of danger and look down upon those that abuse the ability, sometimes shunning them completely. Occasionally a Lutra will be born with the additional power of wind kinesis or lightning kinesis, but these are rare. You can tell at birth if a pup will have either additional ability, for those with wind kinesis are born with feathered, bird like wings while those with lightning kinesis are born with leathery bat-like wings. Lutras refer to these rare specimens as Thunderborn and Tempestborn. Lutras patrol their territories vigilantly and generally use their powers in order to try to stop destruction or pollution of the home they’ve chosen to protect, but they can sometimes become corrupted when they fail....

Lutras are omnivorous, eating mainly fish, shellfish, and berries, but they will eat almost anything if they’re desperate enough. They love collecting pretty stones and shells, and when two Lutras become mates, they exchange their favorite trinkets with each other as a token of their love. Lutras generally mate for life, but it is not unheard of for them to go their separate ways and find new mates. Lutras usually only have 1 pup per litter, but can rarely have twins. Lutras can be any colors and may pass on their mutations to their offspring.

Lutras can have a number of mutations with the possibility of more being discovered as time goes on. Most mutations are part of a 'Gene Group'. This means they share the same gene as another mutation and they cannot both appear on the same Lutra. Any mutations not listed in the Gene Groups is the only mutation that occurs on that gene (meaning only not having a mutation is the only other option for it). All Groups of course have the option of No Mutation expressing (for Ears, Small Ears is the same thing as No Mutation).

General Rules

1. All Tess’s rules apply.

2. For now, you may own up to 5 Lutras; staff and artists may own up to 7. This number may raise in future. This number is PER ACCOUNT. This means if you share an account with someone, your ACCOUNT can only have 5 Lutras; trying to keep archives straight when people share accounts is a pain otherwise -_-

3. No one may own more than 2 customs. All staff and artists may make one free custom for themselves (non artist staff may request an artist to make it for them or make it themselves). Do not ask for a custom, they will be given out during events and contests as prizes and will otherwise be unavailable.

4. Do not whine, bribe, guilt trip, etc. ANYONE for ANYTHING or you will be banned from owning a Lutra.

5. If you no longer want one of your Lutras, speak with the artist about what they are okay with you doing with it. They may wish to put it back up for adoption or they might allow you to gift it to a friend or hold an adoption contest on your own. Note that if you are allowed to hold an adoption contest for a re-adoption of one of your Lutras, the same rules apply to you as they do to artists, you may NOT accept any form of payment for the Lutra. No RUs will be awarded either.

6. We allow Lutras to share names with permission from the original 'owner' of the name. Make sure you check the Archive to see if a name you want to use is taken or not, and if you still want to use it, you must get permission from the original 'owner' or change the name.

7. Once you win a Lutra you have the right to be added so you can add accessories to it, make a reference, etc. However, you may not change anything fundamental about the Lutra's actual lines. You may not add mutations, this includes Hair, unless you have gotten a specific item from the Store that would allow you to do so. Not following this rule will bypass your Warning and get you issued 1 Strike.

8. Any tryout art you make or order belongs to YOU, regardless if you win the Lutra or not. You are free to have it recolored and reuse it for another Lutra or whatever. You are free to gift it to the winner if you wish, but you do not have to by any means.

9. We have a 3 strike system for rulebreakers. You get 1 warning for minor infractions, but depending on the severity of what you’ve done, we may skip the warning or even some of the strikes. 1 strike means you cannot adopt for 1 week; you will be disqualified from any and all contests you are currently participating in until your 1 week is up. 2 strikes means you cannot adopt for 1 month, again you’ll be disqualified from current contests you might be participating in. 3 strikes means you are banned from Lutras for good and we reserve the right to take your current Lutras from you and readopt them out. Likewise, if your CS account gets deleted/banned, we reserve the right to readopt out your Lutras.

Artist Rules

1. Artists may make 1 free custom for a friend if they wish.

2. Artists may make up their own forms for adopting the Lutras they make but they must include at least a Name and Gender. However, they may never ask for payment or bids in the form of art*, chicken dollars, CS pets, pets from other sites, real money, or ANYTHING. Lutras will ALWAYS be a free species and if an artist is ever asking for payment for one alert me immediately. *Art may still be a required field for adoption, but it must not be personal art for the artist. Artists should also remember to include if the Lutra has any mutations and list which ones they have.

3. Artists may not make more than 2 Lutras a week, but should make at least 1 a month. I do not want them becoming overpopulated.

4. Artists may not have more than 3 contests open at the same time. Once you have three contests running at the same time, you must wait for one to be closed AND JUDGED before you can make a new Lutra.

5. You may only make 1 FCFS a month (this does not mean you HAVE to make one!).

6. Contests should last at least 24 hours (with the exception of guessing contests and FCFS).

7. No adoption contest may last longer than 1 month. If you do not close a contest after 1 month has passed I will close it for you.

8. Judging should take no longer than 1 month. If you have not judged a contest 1 month after closing it, guest judges will be brought in to judge it instead.

9. RUs cannot be awarded for guessing contests unless there was more than one correct answer. For all other contests, 1 RU may be awarded if there are less than 5 completed forms, and for every 5 completed forms after, 1 more RU may be awarded, up to 5 RUs (if you so choose; you do not have to award any RUs if you don’t want).

10. Artists may not make line edits without express permission. Adding accessories is fine, but no changes may be made to the actual Lutra lines without asking me first, and permission will only be granted if there is a good reason. Staff customs may have ONE unique mutation/line edit (meaning a brand new mutation that isn't listed or already made on the lines, so hair is excluded from this; a staff custom can have hair and a unique mutation). During holidays and special events artists may be given permission to make special line edits, but it is unlikely such line edits will be allowed otherwise. These special event Lutras will not count as a 'muation' Lutra for the purpose of the Artist Rules (meaning you don't have to make a Lutra with no mutations right before or after making it).

11. Every 25th, 50th, and 75th Lutra will be either Tempestborn or Thunderborn. Every 20th, 40th, 60th, and 80th Lutra will have hair. They cannot be made at any other time. Every 100th Lutra will be entirely unique, with custom lines and special traits no other Lutra will have (with the possibility of passing such traits on to their offspring). Artists will be given turns creating these.

12. For now the only rule about making Lutras with common and uncommon mutations is that for every 1 Lutra you make with mutations you must make 1 with no mutations. Please be reasonable and remember that the common mutations should be occurring more than the uncommon ones. This rule is subject to change and become more limiting if artists abuse the freedom they have with mutations too much.

13. All adoptable Lutras must be numbered. Look at the last Lutra created to see what number yours should be. CUSTOMS DO NOT GET NUMBERS. RUs should be the same number as the original Lutra they were made from with a decimal (for instance an RU for #12 would be #12.1, #12.2, etc.).

14. DO NOT change the color of any Lutra's sclera (the eye whites). For now, white is the only color they can be, though this will change in the future.

Guest Artist Rules

1. Guest Artists may make 5 Lutras for adoption. RUs count for this, so if you make 2 RUs for one of your adopts you may only make 2 more Lutras. Keep this in mind when deciding if you want to award RUs or not.

2. Guest Artists must make 3 adopts before they can create their custom.

3. Guest Artists are allowed to make themselves one custom (cannot be Thunderborn or Tempestborn and cannot have unique mutations, but can have hair). No matter how many times you become a Guest Artist, you can only make yourself the ONE custom. If you become a Guest Artist again you may choose to make ONE custom for a friend (same rules apply as for making a custom for yourself). If you have done both these things or do not wish to make any customs, you may instead make 6 adoptables instead of 5.

4. 3 of the 5/6 Lutras a Guest Artist makes must have no mutations (this does not include their custom). Guest Artists must make 2 Lutras with no mutations before they can make 1 with mutations.

5. Guest Artists will have 1 month to create their adoptables and custom before they will be removed from the lines. If they finish before their month is up they will be removed earlier.

6. Guest Artists cannot be Guest Artists 2 times in a row, but they can be Guest Artists multiple times.

7. All other Artist Rules apply to Guest Artists so be sure to read them and note where the differences are!

Guest Artists - CLOSED
Guest Artist positions will open up periodically, so if you're interested just keep an eye out. I will always choose at least 1 GA from all entries, but I may vary in the number I end up choosing each time I open them up. If I like your work I may allow you to stay on as a Guest Artist longer than normal and may even allow you to become a Full Artist if you wish to do so.
