How are you able to make them transparent?

Well if your asking about how to make adopts transparent... 1. you have to ask if you are aloud to be added if so... click color it in, 2. Go through all the layers that involve the other pets and delete the pets on the layer that you don't own with the eraser, 3. Remove anything at the bottom of the layer list like "Background" or "bg" if you do it correctly you should see a small light blue and white checker pattern. If you need anything else pm me ^^
