Personality;; Kanani is really athletic. She surfs, does track, and even runs in her free time. She's not very good at track, she's only won about two awards in all her years, but she doesn't mind, she likes it anyways. She's much better at surfing! Surfing is her favorite thing in the world! She learned to surf at a young age, and was terrible at it, but got better and now she's fantastic! She has a "ritual" where she wears paint on herself while surfing to keep herself from falling off the board. It's a superstition, but you know about the placebo effect right? If you believe something will happen, then you'll feel like it's working. It's like a lucky charm as most would call it. She also wears the paint 'cause it makes her happy and she's able to smile while she surfs.
When she wears the paint while she's not surfing, she's just being a total dork and showing off her rad paint skills.
She's extremely competitive, and not a very good sport. She wont say anything bad to the winner, but certainly will to close friends. She hates to loose, and will be the first out of anyone to complain about it. Though when she wins, her personality practically does a 180 and she compliments the losers saying "you'll do better!" or "i honestly thought you should've won!" and means it! It's hard to tell, but when she insults winners, she's not meaning it. She puts on the facade to make herself feel better.
Kanani actually really loves small animals like birds, fish, lizards, and bugs. She has a pet lizard named Charles Xavier [we'll get to the reason for the name later], and whenever Kanani goes for a run, Charles is hanging on for dear life on her shoulder. She tries to take him everywhere, except restaurants, she got kicked out of one for bringing him. She adores Charles with all her heart, and gives him all the love she has.
Now, I did mention I'd tell you the origin of Charles' name, correct? Well Kanani is a closet Marvel fan. She was made fun of at school since she was a sporty geek, so when she entered high school she changed and became just sporty to avoid bullying. Kanani has always loved Marvel though, never stopped. Though she does play favorites, and X-Men is definitely hers. She named her lizard, Charles, after Professor Charles Xavier, one of her favorites from the comics.
To sum it up, Kanani is a competitive, sporty nerd that adores her lizard, Charles.
