Deragamouse #2

Postby plum » Fri May 23, 2014 9:08 am

What are Deragamice?
A Deragamouse is a large, dragon-like creature that dwells both in human societies and in the forests of the world. They maintain many traits that have allowed them to integrate well into the human world, including high intelligence and a diverse diet as well as willingness to work or be companions to people. Of course, some Deragamice reject humans, and continue living in tribes in the forest. Overall, Deragas are approximately as tall as a horse as adults, though their bodies are much longer, and have long, flexible bodies meant for life in the trees. They have sharp teeth and claws meant for hunting, but their diet consists of both meat and plant matter, and everything inbetween.

The second deraga! It's a carrier for a hidden gene and is based off of a barn owl.

This will also be another simple contest; tell me what happened to their ear, and if they have any other injuries.
Ends in a week, extras are fine.

What happened to them?:
It all started when I was roaming in the trees. I would regret the fun it brought me, but how was that going to get sunk into my thick skull. I was skillfully slinking through the trees, of course it was the dead of night, a thief shouldn't be caught lurking around. My tail was wrapping around the branches quickly, helping me push off and gain speed, but not even speed could save me from what awaited me ahead. Lurking.

The stars were just waking up from their 12 hour slumber, their sitter the moon coming with them. The light played across the tree's, making patterns and figures on the branches and trunks of the tree's I used as my run way. But, one of the figures wasn't the light reflecting off the swaying leaves.

It lay there on the branch, it's tail swaying wildly beneath the cover of darkness. I never thought that Feral feline would have been there, only if I had noticed the gleam of those threatening eyes. I was so young, so dim-bulb-ed, it cost me my hearing.

My feet padded softly against the final branch I would tread on, for the rest of my life I thought in the spur of that horrifying moment. Something rang through my picky hearing. "mmmmmm" It was low and deep. I froze on my branch, my eyes narrowing as I squinted into the darkness. The next thing I knew I was staring face to face with the ugly scared face of that feral feline.

I screeched. A loud, ear-splitting screech. My new enemy hissed, backing away, but only for a moment. It lunged it's head for me, it's teeth sinking deeply into my ear. It lifted me from the branch and swung me around, still in it's mouth. Suddenly a sickening tear filled my ear drums and blood

    Name: Mixtape
    Gender: Male
    Personality:
Eager to fit in, Mixtape tries to follow the crowd, even if that puts him in sticky situations. He is outgoing around others as a facade, but in reality is quite shy and reserved. Ever since his accident he is much less trusting of others so easily, but he tries to remain as open as possible. Mix is easily readable and wears his feelings on his sleeve. When in danger, he lets out a high-pitched screech, something he's done since he was a kid and he is highly embarrassed by this instinctive trait. As Mixtape has grown up, several influential dergas have held high respect from him, and he has grown very attached to these select few. Mix is very intelligent and courageous, despite his anti-social nature.
    What happened to them?:
It was a windy day that summer. Mixtape was only fourteen, and he thought he knew it all. His friends weren't your typical good guys, no. These kids were into all sorts of mischief that would only render them as nuisances. They never meant for things to go wrong or others to get hurt, but somehow it often did.

Mix and his groupies all had decided to go to the coast that day. The beach was cold, but they didn't care. Salt carried on in the wind, and you could taste it when you breathed. Being the rambunctious teenagers they always were, they son went out "exploring." Just south of where they were was a small cavern with pools of sea water scattered throughout. They went and things were fun. They found copious amounts of trash within this cove, and various critters had called it home. It made Mix a bit uneasy, but these creatures were all little rodents and mostly harmless to these boys.

An hour of splashing and playing had passed. By this time, the majority of the kids were worn out, but were still eager to do more snooping. Mixtape had heard of an old abandoned school yard just across the street from where they were. Clouds loomed in the sky overhead, and the wind was still as harsh as before.

The traffic wasn't too intense, and the five of them crossed the roads no problem, despite a small hiccup from the most fearless one. The land across the road was overgrown, much more than any of them had ever seen. Green thickets and vines grew all around the building, and visibility was narrow. They pushed through the bushes, and found a broken window to the school. A good leap, and they could make it inside. The wind whistled outside, but inside in was more quiet. Dust lay about on the desks and the floor. Graffiti lined the walls. The ceiling was braking and emergency lights flickered in the hallways. The backup generator was surprisingly still functioning after so many years.

Mix and the boys went wandering through the seemingly abandoned school. Many doors were locked, or had been at one point. A dusty trophy case with shattered glass and a crooked shelf was in the hall where an attendance office had been. The library was at the ed of the hall, and they went inside. Many of the shelves were in good condition, but the same couldn't be said about the books. They were scattered all about and pages without binding skittered along the cold tile. This library had windows along the top of the walls, many of them overgrown with vines, and those that were not had broken glass. Beams of sunlight danced in through the holes and peeped out of clouds. Something seemed to be watching them.

Along the ground, prints of a larger animal could be seen in the dust. Walking through isles of shelves, some of the boys caused quite the havoc. A low growling could be heard from a dark room near the back of the library, and streaks of red were seen n the tile, as if something was dragged into the room. Mix grew nervous, but the others didn't notice. They were all having fun exploring and destroying. Before they knew it, they were wrecking a home.
      ...
A loud crash sounded from the back. They all stopped, frozen in their tracks. From out of the shadows a large beast appeared, nostrils flared and growling at the curious boys. It was dark, fur matted, and at this point, unidentifiable. It lunged at Mix, the closest from the group, and the other boys bolted, leaving Mix to fend for himself. He ran, but he wasn't quite fast enough. The creature grabbed Mix in his jaws, ripping a chunk of flesh from his hind leg. Mix screamed, but the boys were nowhere to be seen. In an effort to survive, Mix shook about, the bleeding from his leg worsening. He smashed into shelves, toppling them onto himself and the beast. It let go of Mix's leg, and Mix struggled to get away. The beast was even more infuriated by now, and he smashed through the shelf on top of him, and searched for Mix. It grew quiet, the monster listening for the slightest movement, when a book fell right next to Mixtape. He tried to get away before the creature found him, but it was too late. This time, it sunk its teeth into Mix's ear, and tore it, blood gushing everywhere and Mix ran from the room back to their entry way. It didn't hurt yet, Mixtape's adrenaline was too high for any shock to set in. He couldn't hear out of his left ear at this point, too much blood was in his ear canal.

Mix go out of the building and cried for anyone in hearing distance, but got no replies. The salty wind stung his wounds and a shrill whimper escaped his lips. He found shelter in a broke down car along the side of the road. In the distance behind him, he heard exasperated hollers from the beast. It was too large to follow Mix out of the school. For now he was safe, but his time seemed limited as blood still poured from his wounds. Now tired and weak, he passed out on the back seat of this vehicle, time slipping away.

The next thing he remembers he was home and healing. All memories since the attack were wiped as if he couldn't bear to recall what happened to him. It was about two weeks later, and bandages were wrapped around his wounds on his leg, and around his head. His mother helped take care of him, and he never wanted to see those boys again, even though he knew he couldn't place all the blame on them.

His leg healed nicely aside from a few hidden scars under his coat, but the cartilage in his ear never grew back, and to this day bits are still missing; He holds it as a reminder to himself to not get caught up in the wrong crowd again, and to trust only a select few in this life.

Deragamouse #2 - Hinata

Postby 薄桜鬼 » Wed May 28, 2014 6:47 pm

      Username: 薄桜鬼
      Name: Shinari Hinata
Nick Name[s]: He may go by Shin, Nari, and Hina. However, he mainly goes by Hinata and Hina.
      Origin: Japanese
Meaning: Shinari means bending, while Hinata means sunflower/facing the sun.
      Gender: Male
Personality: Hinata doesn't do well around others and prefers to be alone and friendless. It may seem strange and others might believe he doesn't like others, but that is far from the truth. He actually cares deeply for others and doesn't wish for anything bad to happen to them, and so he chooses to separate himself from them in the emotional fear that he might hurt them. When he was younger, he decided to be fine being alone and has lived like that since then, so solitude is no longer a foreign thing to him and he welcomes it. This all being said, when he is confronted by others he can easily act nice and normal, but he doesn't ever let any body get too close to him for the reason stated before. He is simply looking out for their well being and believing it is the right action. While in solitude, he'll observe others actions and his own very carefully, especially his own.
      Story (What Happened):

Hina quietly slunk through the tall weeds, peering around the trunks of the trees that surrounded a small clearing. In the space were two humans, dressed in different shades of brown and green in a failed attempt to camouflage in the forest. With mild curiosity, the young Deraga studied the humans as they made their way over to the other side of the clearing. The larger one shouted an order at the other, the harsh sound filling the air and silencing whatever birds had been calling to each other. His tail swished as he continued to watch them, still absorbed in studying the strange creature he had never seen before. Hina had heard stories of the humans, how they were evil and tricked most of his own species into their homes, including his mother, treating them as pets. Still, maybe his father was just superstitious and these creatures were just here to explore, like the stray dogs that often made their way into this part of the forest where he lived. His tail lifted in excitement as he came up with an idea. He would try to speak with the humans! Tail still high in the air, he left his hiding place and started toward the two humans.

As Hina came closer, the smaller man turned and noticed him. Letting out a whoop, he quickly nudged the larger man to get his attention. The young Deraga watched as the man stared at him for a couple seconds in shock before recovering, lifting the long stick at his side and pointing the end at him. Hina perked his ears in curiosity as he moved, wondering what they were doing, when a boom loud as thunder filled the air. Before he could react to the noise, a sharp pain blinded him and he felt a warm liquid running down the side of his face. Panicking, he spun around and bolted for the cover of the forest, branches cutting into his face as he retreated. The thudding footsteps of the men followed after him, along with more thundering booms. Hina didn't think about anything else but getting away from them, and the first place that he thought of to escape to was his home.

Hina winded his way through the twisting branches, faintly registering the metallic taste of blood as his ear throbbed in pain. He hoped that the huge, blundering humans wouldn't be able to follow him further into the forest, his size giving him an advantage. In less than a minute, he was skidding to a stop in front of his home, panting heavily to catch his breath. He must have been louder than he thought, because a few seconds later his father rushed up to him. "Hina! What happened to you?" His father poked and prodded him with his nose as he spoke, searching for any hidden injuries besides his bloody ear. Wincing a bit, he hurriedly told him what had happened in the clearing. As he spoke, the worry in his father's eyes was replaced with anger. "You led the humans to us?! Are you mad?!"

Hina took a step backward, pressing his ears against his head in confusion at the anger in the other's voice. "I-I didn't mean to! This was the only place I could go!" He struggled to convince his father that it wasn't his fault, that he hadn't planned for that to happen. The sound of twigs snapping under feet nearby frightened him, but not nearly as much as the look in his father's eyes. "Get out of here, before the humans find you and kill us all!" Hina shook his head, stammering in an attempt to plead with him, but all that greeted him was a growl at his hesitation. "Get away!" Before he could react, his father bared his teeth and swatted at him, claws digging into his injured ear and making him lose his footing from the sudden burst of pain. Hina shoved him away, yelping as more blood started to leak from his ear and down his cheek. He scrambled to his feet and spun around, running away from both the humans and his father.

Teeth grazed his tail behind him, but he pulled it close to his body and was out of sight, leaving his home behind him. He ran for nearly an hour before slowing, chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath. He blinked several times to get rid of the blood in his eye, trying to figure out where he was. There was nothing familiar around him, and as if to mock him, the light quickly began to retreat to be replaced with the darkness of night. The birds had stopped singing, and shadows surrounded him as he stood in the middle of a small clearing, much like the one he had watched the humans in that afternoon. He curled up on the ground, tail shielding his face from the thoughts of his father returning to chase him away, and a tear mixed in with the blood drying on his cheek. "Where do I go now?"

(Please note: I strongly dislike sad stories and pasts usually, so I do feel fairly bad for giving him one. That's where I make up for it in his current personality. He takes mainly good from it. I just thought I would point out that I usually don't dig sad crap though.
Second Note: A bunch of thanks to Inukami and The Red Jackal for their help! You two were very helpful!)
