Flora's owner, Mrs. Kravitz, kept two of the kittens for her own children, but Vega was too mischievous for her. Vega was an escape artist, always playful, very active, and constantly getting into trouble. When she was a few months old, Mrs. Kravitz was looking for Vega in order to take her to the animal shelter- but Vega had escaped through an air vent.
The intelligent golden-brown kitten wandered the streets for several weeks, watching other cats to learn how to hunt and scavenge food. She became a great mouser for her young age. She enjoyed the freedom, but soon started to feel homesick and longed for a place and a family of her own. One day, she fell asleep outside of an animal shelter, and woke up inside of it...
