Some things to notice:
The easily overlooked markings around the eyes
Often missed stripey ears :p
and (not pictured) Fluffy tufts of fur on the inside of the ears, usually has visible fangs.

Techniques:
For the feather I started with the base (darker) color and then added the white tip. Then drew lines with the richer/lighter color in the direction of the fibers of the feather and smudged them outward. then went over the smudged lines very sparsely with the color again, not smudging.

For the eyes I started with the medium color, and used the dodge tool until a faint blue hue could be seen. The taking the darker color I lightly airbrushed the edges of the iris and pupil. Then using the brightest color I airbrushed areas where the light would catch.

Yeah, I really had a lot of fun with this design, its probably the quickest one I've done and one of the best. It started out simple and I just kept adding XD
