Species Entry - Sand Surfers

Sand Surfers are small, furry creatures that stand about a twenty inches tall, fifteen inches long, and weigh an average of seven pounds for both genders. This species was recently discovered in the deserts of Egypt. Word of this type of animal was not released to the public until a few years later, during that time; scientists did research in old Egyptian books for any trace of these animals. To their delight, much information was found. Sand Surfers were used as entertainment for the wealthy, as well as herding sheep for the poor. To this date, scientists have not domesticated the species. Sand Surfers can only be found in the wild.

Image
Sand Surfers are native to Egypt, and now much of Africa and India. Due to relocation and reservations, these creatures reside in almost any desert. Sand Surfers populate in high quantities in California deserts because of the close resemblance to their home deserts. Currently, these animals only live in the desert, but some of DNA in Sand Surfers show longer coats coming to the species, but they have yet to appear. Sand Surfers live underground, in complex strings of tunnels. These tunnels are about five feet below ground, and are inhabited the most during the nights by the Sand Surfers, and very little during the day.

Image
Sand Surfers are omnivores, meaning they eat both meat and plant material. Sand Surfers will mainly eat small rodents, small birds, small reptiles, berries, grasses, and nuts to survive. Although they are commonly found eating these types of food, they can be seen eating fish, which is very uncommon.

Image
Sand Surfers don't come in a wide range of common colours. Sand Surfers come in natural colors for their base colour. Different shades of browns are the most common colour. Colours in the greyscale (minus white and extremely light greys) are uncommon, while dark reds and yellow-oranges are rare. The rarest colour is white/albino. Eye colour can range from brown to blue. The most common eye colour is brown, while blues and greens are uncommon. The most unseen eye colour is basically any colour in the greyscale (minus white, extremely light greys, black, and extremely dark greys). Pupils are always a much darker shade of the base eye colour. The eye whites are always a light shade of grey, peach, or yellow. Almost all Sand Surfers have markings. They can range of tribal prints, to even wild cat patterns. Markings on Sand Surfers are virtually endless. Sand Surfers usual have wild cat patterns, spots, tribal markings, socks, stripes, and in the rarest case, no markings at all. Almost all markings follow the natural colour rule, but in rare cases they do have unnatural colours for their markings. The colour of their skin only has one limitation; it has to be a natural colour.

Image
Sand Surfers have a complex personality. They have quirks, as well as good traits and bad traits. These creatures are very social, and become lonely very easily. Sand Surfers usually live in small groups, or clots, of about twelve to twenty Sand Surfers. They follow a very strict hierarchy. There are two leaders, one male and one female. Normal clot members consist of seven to thirteen Sand Surfers. There are usually three to five omegas. The omegas in the clot are last to eat, and last to drink. The clot lives on an area from five hundred aquare foot area to a nine hundred squar foot area. Sand Surfers mainly mate for life, meaning that they will always have offspring with the same partner. All Sand Surfers can be exclueded from this rule. Sometimes, Sand Surfers will change partners. They either lost intrest in their partner, or found a new partner which they prefer more. Finding these special partners is simple for Sand Surfers. The mal will court the female with a ride range of gifts. These gifts can be stolen and given to their future partner, or given to the male from a friend or family member to be given to the femael Sand Surfer. If the female likes the gift, they will become partners.

Image
• Sand Surfers use their muscled tails to "surf" across sand, and to capture the attention of males.
• Sand Surfers follow a strict hierarchy, meaning that other Sand Surfers cannot mate with lower or higher ranked Sand Surfers.
• There is almost no way to tell the difference between a male and female Sand Surfers.
• Litters of Sand Surfers come in small amounts, usually two to three offspring.
• Offspring of the Sand Surfers have a mix of colours from their parents. Their markings follow one of their parents, not both.
• Although they live in the wild, their homes have become increasingly closer to humans. Human interaction is common in Sand Surfers near cities and towns
• Sand Surfers are natural theives. THye pick up anything that cathes their mind, be it an empty container or a priceless jewel.

(More to come)

If I win, I will:
1. Experiment with the lines. Mainly designs, and possibly items
2. Hold an artist contest before the thread opens. Hopefully this will help publicity and let the artists get used to the lines and design limitations.
3. Make banners and icons, mainly of the headshot. It will require me to save it my computer, if you wouldn't mind.
4. Open the thread to public viewing, and start adoptions.
(I will possibly do more)

Image
I kind of touched this topic a little in the above section, but not very much. Her is a continued run down for the adoption thread. I will:
1. Create the thread. There will be sections, probably more than one post to help section it off.
2. I will re-run through the information. Correct any mistakes and add/change any information that I feel needed.
3. Set up "artist corners". This will help when customs open for the species. Each artist will get their own post that follows the main thread before it opens. It will aid in any customers questions for specific artists and their corresponding custom slots and rules.
4. Set up affiliates with other adoption threads. This will hopefully bring in more people to the thread if they see it on other topics for adoptions. The more the merrier!
5. Create banners and stickers for the thread and species. Also to help with avertisement to public.
6. Keep the thread clean and runing smoothly. Mini-mods will be accepted to help minimize spam and any rude or obnoxious comments and post on the thread. They will also possibly help with any questions about rules and regulations for customs and other adoptions, as well as warn me of rule breaking members on the thread.
7. Give credit for these freaking amazing lines. It truely is an honor to try for these! c:
(I will do more)

I went and made a stamp. If anyone wants to make some for me, that would be amazing.

I'll be hosting the contest once the line edits are done. CalicoTabby, take your time, there is n rush for the lies to be done. In the mean time, I'm still open for any banners or stickers for the adopts for when it opens. I will also be taking in any suggetions for the species or the thread. I will be fine tunning the information, chaning mainly the behavior so it ins't all about how they get mates, and more on how they act around each other, other animals, and humans, as well as why the theive mainly jewlery. I will be fixing up the colorations so it is easier to understand.
