When developing characters, what helps to influence you?
I don't normally design characters but when I do, what tends to influence me is my interests at the time. Like, Dexter was designed based on Fallout 4, when it first came out, and I just developed him into a serial killer, based on his namesake, Dexter Morgan from Dexter.

And Aleakai {revamped version} came after watching SW: TFA.

Recently, i ordered some pony breedings and these are the results.

Their names {in order} are Aria, Ace, and Phenex and they're called The Troublesome Trio on-board the pirate ship all of their parents work on {besides Phenex's mom, she's my character}. If anyone wants to start up our own Pirate crew, hmu and we can talk about it?

Pandle ~ Welcome back~ THeron is set on an alternative planet that is further along tech-wise than Earth. Plus, it has a bit more magic and some weird creatures. He manages to avoid getting hit by most bullets, fortunately for him. I honestly do not mind being asked a ton of questions about my OCs ;w;

Ascendant Zenyatta ~ Please make sure to give others feedback even when you're answering a group question. When you have OCs that come from video games, do you usually keep them in the video game's setting?

foster_dawg ~ Oh my gosh, that style Cavin is in is super cool, congrats on getting it. It's really cool that your friends also got pups from the Star Wars batch. They are all so cute together ;w;. Kylo looks like such a cutie. Does his personality match-up with his namesake? I love how giant Maul is compared to Kylo~ Snark Shark. Does Snark ever hurt people's feelings because she's being too snarky? How come Jason is so deaf? I really like Aleakai's redesign. That roboarm is super impressive, I love it's design and that he stores his lightsaber in it. Max and Alex are super cute together. Also, I love how tattered Dexter looks. (I didn't read your response to the question until I was done with commenting. I was wondering if Dexter was named after the show hahaha) C-3PO looks so fluffy and upset, haha. I really like Phenex's design, all that fluff and horns~ Bats are the cutest babies, I get the obsession (I want to try to photograph some this summer). Have you decided on a personality for Batt? What happened to King Cackle's wing? Did you name the lion Fey?

When developing characters, what helps to influence you?

For making characters, I usually make characters based around my current interests or when I absolutely need to make a new one to fill in a gap in a story. Some of my favourite characters are actually based off antiques in my dad's house.
With outfits, I base a lot of them off clothes I see people wearing. For more fantasy based clothes, I look at haute coutre designs. Though, I do have some characters that I dress in clothes based of ones that I own (Theron is one).

I haven't drawn Lunar in years despite her being one of my favourite character for sentimental reasons. I'm in the middle of a huge redevelopment of her world and story so I don't have a very set idea on what I'm going to do with her right now. Though, I know for sure I'm keeping her as a buff, fire mage, shapeshifter.


So with my angels, they change appearances to fit in, but generally have one form that is their favourite. Israfel likes to stay as a humanoid-thing that is basically made from stone. He's one of my sweetest OCs and makes an attempt to try to parent all the angels in Telchass regardless of their age. He also has the best singing voice out of all the Telchass angels.


Sheshi is one of the older demons in Hell and is debatably one of the strongest. She's physically weak, but her magic is terrifying.

When you say you get things from other people's OCs, is that more of an inspiration that it sparks off in you and helps you realise things about your characters, or would you say it's more like 'oh that's a neat trait/design/concept, and I'll incorporate it?' I'm just curious because I remember going through a phase when I was probably 11 or so, and I had a couple of roleplay partners who I just worshipped, they were incredible. And I got a lot of inspiration for my characters from them, because they challenged me in my writing so much that it helped to me develop the character, which ended up playing a major role in his design/concept too. Not that I realised it until now lol.

When you say you don't design characters, would you say that includes in a literary sense? Do you write with/for them, or are they characters that you buy and collect type situation? (I'm not really that aware of how that side of characters goes, so that's probably terribly generalised and poorly worded OTL). Who would you say is your favourite of the bunch, and why? Also loving the unnamed anthro lion. Unfortunately not great with names, I tend to look at names from different countries which share a similarity with the home world a character is from, if that's of any help :3

Thanks! That's a relief to know hue hue. Oh well that's definitely a saving grace, otherwise he'd be riddled with holes by now. Probably not the most fetching look ever either-or handy. Did you design the world specifically for Theron, or was it a concept you'd already been working on prior to developing him as a character? Would you say one influenced the other?

Not that I've put pen to paper on her yet, but one day. *watches the horizon as if that might mark the day*.

I think it's a bit of both actually. I think it most often is more of the 'i want to incorporate this in one of my OC's/make a new OC'. Sometimes i see really cool OC's, or OC's with neat stories and i often want something like it in my own OC's. But i always make sure it fits the character, so i won't get a character consisting of random picked elements that don't add up. And sometimes i just have to accept i can't have all the cool traits ;p
I remember when i started on my first OC, who is a videogame character. I saw people make background stories for their characters and i was like 'you can do that???' so i wanted to too. And now i'm here, years later, still not having developed a full background story. I decided to give my videogame character a bit more of a personality that would influences his in game choices, and i incorporated some of the gameplay into his background story. I also read other peoples' characters' background's to get inspiration.
I developed some characters trough rp too! I don't really use them anymore though. I never write and never rp anymore, so the only thing my OC's are good for now is using them in videogames or daydreaming ^^'

The artwork is really cool! And the character too, it's an interesting species. Is it an open species, or closed?
I have used art to develop the character better too, at times. I can get really inspired to 'write' (aka, think about) about my OC when i see them in artwork/in videogames. Have you made start at developing her though? Maybe not minore details, but some 'bigger' personality traists/history?

@TenMomentsTill - Ronzo's scarf is special to him, speaking of Ronzo, I just wrote up his personality the other day! Thanks for the compliments and that advice has helped me start to develop Muse! As for Diana, she did indeed leave because the empire fell and the people were going after her brother and herself, so they fled.
Raphael looks interesting! Sounds like an interesting story he has, though he sounds very evil. Procel on the other hand seams really cool! Collecting shiny and pretty things! All I can imagine is a hidden cave or something full of sparkle!
That ref sheet of Theron is amazing! I am curious, how has he ruined his life?
Isafrel look really cool and seems like a sweet character! What kind of powers does Sheshi have that makes her so terrifying?

He is the brother of Squirrelspirit's Nunebis (He wasn't designed to be but they looked liked siblings.) and he desired to be a warrior like his older brother, but an incident against Hyperion and Genesis resulted in him discovering his bloodthirsty side that only triggers when he is in a real fight. This incident nearly resulted in him attacking his own brother. He chose instead to be a cub trainer instead for the safety of his family and the pride. He has a crush on Malaika, but he struggles to get near her because Eztli is a bit of an overprotective bum when it comes to his baby girl.

Pandle ~ What reptilian and mammalian characteristics does Akosau's species display? It's wonderful that art was able to spur you to continue developing her based off art you received. Would you say that the art helped you develop her a lot or just finer details?
The world Theron is in was a really vague concept I had been sorta working on prior to creating him. The world did help influence my plans for Theron, but actually developing him as an OC made me plan a lot of the world's details. I'm redeveloping Lunar (and the entire story) since I haven't touched it for years. She was a mary sue and I'm scrapping a lot of the original story to help remedy that. Buff as in visibly has a lot of muscle. Ahh, thank you. I'm super proud of Israfel turned out.

Ascendant Zenyatta ~ Thank you~ I've always had a weakness for floating limbs so I finally made a design myself another character with floaty limbs since I only have one other.

NARANDA ~ That art of Arrosa is beautiful! She has a sister right (I might be just imagining this)? Does the armor on Asmodeus's front leg armor come in handy? Or is more of a decoration than armor? Lush looks so pretty~ Does she have to worry about her fin being damaged or is it more resilient than a normal fish fin? I don't know if I have asked this before, but is Malakia based off a lion fish? I love how pale her eyes are by the way~ If Tadao didn't have to worry about injuring others, what job would he have taken? I really love your new OCs split-colour face. Maybe you can start developing them by finding a story to place them into.
I'm glad that I helped you develop Muse! Raphael is debatably one of the worst people I have as an OC. To avoid a huge paragraph, Theron basically makes bad, impulsive decisions and then, when he has a chance to redeem himself for doing said things, he doesn't take the opportunity. Israfel is a huge sweety. I haven't exactly decided on what Sheshi's powers are but I'm debating a few things. She's such an unimportant character, it will be a while before I decide.

I got these a while ago, but never posted them. Nikolai is a necromancer that doesn't believe in ghosts. He calls them figures and pretends that they are an entirely different things than ghosts. Usually, the ghosts that bother him or come when summoned look like people (the cute little one next to him in this art is based off some lazy cute ghosts I drew)

Oooh I see! That makes a lot of sense really xD If I was a psychology student I would definitely do a study into how character development aids decision-making in gaming, and the consequences this has for game development. Alas, that is not my subject lol.

The órthia sáv̱ra are a species I made entirely alongside Akosua, I'm not against anyone else following from it or pinching bits here and there, but I guess I've never really shared enough information to make it something anyone else has been interested in ha ha. I think I've got a general gist of the 'how she is where she is' type history; the órthia sávra have a complex system of social mobility, during the rainy-season all the lounges (kind of like tribes) come together at one particular place for the sole purpose of warring. There are multiple aims, depending on what you personally want as an outcome. Some aim to become ájá orù (meaning sand-servants); lounge leaders who enjoy little to no personal liberty in a constant battle to fulfil their lounge's religious and social needs (a.k.a they're responsible for a bunch of lizards who want nothing more than to go to constant war). Others aim to become the ebigh'ebi (the unending), or the ebe ọ maara (the knowing). No position is fixed or inherited, and each entails a series of obligations and responsibilities to the lounge. Previously an adviser to her lounge's ájá orú, akosua is determined to become an ebe o maara (not so much like becoming a religious leader, as it is a like trying to achieve divination or receive oracles). So yeah, she's out to become an oracle that will aid her lounge's advancement.

As a species, males and females share some commonalities, such as the scales, of which coverage can vary from anything between 0%-97%. A greater percentage of coverage is generally seen as indicative of greatness, and in their stories, heroes are almost always portrayed as nearly fully covered. The most famous story features a hero who was fully scaled, save for the smallest patch of flesh beneath her left eye. A complete lack of scales is rare, but those who suffer from such are heavily discriminated against and often brutally murdered in their infancy. Of those who survive childhood, many flee to colonies elsewhere.

Although the females tend to be larger, they generally weigh less than their male counterparts. This is partly because of skeletal differences between the two sexes; male skulls are elongated by a head crest, and feature frills which usually lie folded against the neck and head until utilised in displays of prowess, aggression or affection. The frills can come in a host of colours which are often regarded to be a reflection of the spirit. Their skeletons are thick but short; built for short bursts of power and strength rather than prolonged periods of intense activity.

In contrast, the females of the species feature a bacterial gland within their mouths (thus kissing is a forbidden act, and entails a drawn-out, painful death). The bacteria circulates in saliva transfers and leads to haemorrhaging and a prevention of blood-clotting; whilst a single kiss would be insufficient to cause death, if a victim were to also suffer from an injury (internal or external), blood-loss over a period of days and exposure to further bacterial infection can cause fatalities. Their skeletal frames are a lot lighter, despite being larger, and are designed to withstand prolonged periods of activity. The general cultural belief is that it is this key difference which led to the society evolving as matrilineally.

lmao I don't want to ramble on too much about them as a species so i'll stop for now. The art helped me to realise more about the species and what their planet must be like, i.e.that they're cold-blooded, desert-like conditions, brutal and warring social mobility system type thing, and that helped me realise more about akosua's character.

A necromancer that doesn't believe in ghosts seems a great paradox. Did he go into the trade by choice, or was he forced? Why does he refuse to believe they're ghosts?

Story and/or anything else you want to share with us: Fable's art pieces include accessories that aren't on his reference sheet due to the bandanna shown having meaning to the previous owner, and so I agreed not to use it or have him drawn wearing it. He has a total of six other accessories that he can be drawn with! Five of them go around his neck while the last is a beanie.
