Jer stared at her with eyes that showed not anger or wild rage, but a sort of indifferent, calculating coldness that emanated from him. He couldn't exactly be preoccupied with his frustration and fear when he was looking at a woman for the first time. He had heard tales of them and had caught glimpses of the females when they had come when he was no more but a child of few years; he hadn't really gotten to see one though, or be this close. He traced the contours of her body with his gaze, his face remaining expressionless.
A moment later, he straightened from his rigid, offensive stance. While he did not want to be a pet or a slave, he did not want to be brutally put into that position. If he had to go, he would go as a civilized gentlemen; perhaps then the woman would understand he wasn't some raging beast that knew little and growled for his meat. His muscles rippled strongly from beneath his skin as he crossed his arms, briefly pushing back his tousled, blond bangs. He observed her own aggressive stance with a subtle smirk. Was she...afraid of fighting him?
Her words struck his heart, a cruel blow that threatened to undermine his pride and confidence. "Yes, well, you have seen to that." His voice held a razor sharp blade of ice. "I admit, you have caught me off guard." He said, his voice rich and silky. He felt, once more, vulnerable without his spear in hand. He eyed hers for a moment before continuing to speak, "Do you make a claim on me? Is that why you have singled me out? I warn you, woman, that I will not be broken. You can give whatever hellish torture you want, but I will not bow to someone who treats me as no more than an animal." His eyes blazed with a strange passion. He breathed shallowly, daring not to move so she wouldn't attack or force him without good reason. Already he had calculated the situation and was deciding upon letting her take him without a fight, meanwhile conserving his strength, or if he should make a run for it.
A small, almost bitter spark of hope flashed inside him when he noticed the look in her eyes. Was he not what she wanted? Was it his defiance? His adamant position of refusal? He wasn't sure. His train of thought flew off the tracks as he heard the desperate cries and pleas of his fellow men again.
Fighting her and breaking free won't help them now. If I go with this woman, I can learn about her culture, her life, learn about where she lives. And when the time comes, brothers, I will do all that is in my power to rescue you. He swore in his mind. With that, he turned back to her, waiting for her next move.
