Alright, here goes! I hope I'm in time. I plan on drawing some reference pictures asap.
Thue
Name: Thue Johansen
Position: AI and android programmer
Age: 37
Gender: Nonbinary
Orientation: Aromantic gray-pansexual
Appearance: Thue is semi-tall, square-jawed, with a sinewy and slender upper body and strong, somewhat wide hips and legs. They won’t let on whether they dye it or if it’s just greyed with age early, but they wear their almost white hair short except for a jaw-length lock by their left ear. When in work clothes, Thue wears a simple grey or checkered button-up shirt and a pair of dark grey pants, while in their off-time they usually don loose pants and a t-shirt with some obscure, outdated pop culture reference on it.
Bio: While Thue didn’t program any of the AIs aboard the ship, they were hired to monitor them and fix any software issues that might arise. Thue argued that it was utterly unreasonable and unsafe to have only one person for that job, and that they should have at least two assistants or colleagues for a ship of that size. Management gave them a slight pay raise instead.
Thue was born in Greenland to a Greenlandic mother and a Danish father, growing up in Greenland but regularly spending a few years in various Nordic countries during their teenage years. Eventually they moved to the US to go to graduate school and get their Master’s and PhD in computer science, and they’ve lived in the states ever since.
Thue has a fairly calm demeanor, preferring to drop discussions they can’t win rather than enter an argument (though this doesn’t mean they won’t stay pissy about it for a long while and definitely does not mean they will let the other person win; rather they decide to just wait until the other person “comes to their senses”). Despite their insistence on always being right, Thue still cares deeply about the people close to them, but prefers to express their feelings by watching out for and taking care of their loved ones rather than explicitly – even if that caretaking is unwanted (Thue knows what’s best for their loved ones, after all). They’re careful and knows nothing worse than rash decisions, preferring to stay quiet until they know the answer rather than make a potentially wrong guess.
Not only is Thue highly fascinated by AI and how they work both differently and similarly to humans, they have a general interest in technology and toyed with becoming a machine engineer before settling on software and programming instead. This interest extends into a passion for science fiction (the older and cheesier the better) and pop culture in general. Otherwise taciturn, Thue likes dropping jokes and quotes from various movies/video games/etc., even if the only person laughing at them is themself. Frankly, they have a really bad sense of humor.
Relations:Puck
Name: Puaq “Puck” Johansen
Position: Recent high school dropout and hopeful pilot-to-be
Age: 15
Gender: Nonbinary (questioning)
Orientation: Questioning
Appearance: Puck is a fairly short kid with a stocky build that hints about a decent amount of physical strength. Puck has black hair (which is kept messy and a bit too long), and their Greenlandic genes shine through somewhat more than in their parent. As is typical for a 15-year-old, Puck is a slightly hunched over posture and is usually seen with squared shoulders, hands deep in their pockets and dragging their feet. Exempt from wearing a uniform due to being practically a stowaway, Puck usually wears a baggy long sleeved sweatshirt, cargo pants or shorts, and a green cargo vest.
Bio: Puck is a confused mess of misdirected feelings and frustrations – so, a pretty typical teenager. They haven’t got a specific function on
Zodiac and no real reason to be there, except that they recently dropped out of high school and their only living relative in the US, their parent Thue, was about to leave on a years-long mission. Puck had nowhere to go and Thue didn’t trust their kid to stay out of trouble on their own, so Puck was brought along. They spend their time on the ship helping out with odd jobs, making coffee, watching the crew work, and occasionally doing some of the schoolwork Thue insists on assigning them.
Puck has lived in the US all their life, but has nevertheless felt misplaced for various reasons. People never seem to be able to pronounce their name (hence the nickname arisen from countless mispronunciations), they stuck out in the predominately White school, and they were raised gender neutrally by their politically aware parents. They're in that phase of their life where they want to do the exact opposite of what their parents tell them, which unfortunately is pretty hard to do when all they’re told on the subject is “Be whatever you want, I trust you’ll figure it out”. Puck resorted to totally failing academically instead. Thue was not amused.
Instead, Puck fell in love with everything airborne and dreams of becoming a pilot (“How will you do that without an education?” Thue nags). For that reason, they’ve spent most of their time on the ship watching Alyssa at work. Although they claim this to be their only passion, they actually find a great many things fascinating and enjoys learning from the other crew members as well (but stubbornly refuses to channel it into any kind of formal academic work). They’re far more outgoing than their parent and gets along pretty well with most of the ship’s crew. They’re adventurous and would like to think of themself as a brave person.
