Hello bird chat! My family wants to get a pet soon, but my parents dislike many small animals and reptiles, and pet fees make us hesitant to pick a cat or dog.
Are there any birds I should research, or do you think birds are a bad idea for first time owners? I've read that a handful of finches would be comparatively quiet and easy, but I want to make sure that I don't choose a bird that needs hours of interaction that I can't give.

Oops, sorry to reply to myself, but I only just saw this ^^
I'd suggest you get a couple Bourkes if you can! They're about the same as budgies in size and appearance, but they're quiet birds, y'see?
The have the cutest little whistle, but it's not loud and they don't seem to have loud natures, either XD
If you're going with them but might not be able to interact with them a lot it'd probably be better to get more than one, I'd say, just to be safe XD
My two are in an aviary with other birds, so I'm not sure how they'd react to being alone
Finches really sound the safest tbh, but if you're wanting parrot-y-budgie-type-thing I'd say bourkes

How long have you had them?: My cockatiel for 2 years and my budgie for 3 months

That remind me of my old cockatiel he was silly, he would only eat from my hand and when he see me in petland he get happpy and jump around, he would allow me to pet it, and when I do he would fall a sleep and make this cute sound it so calming, it made all the other bird to be quiet, and when I play with it, he act like a dog, then want to be on my hand but I wouldn't allow it, because I was still scare of their claws, but sadly before I was going get it he was very sick and they didn't want to sell it. They gave him away to a different petstore, since he wasn't getting better, I never got to say goodbye *crys* I miss him so much
