I'll be streaming on & off here for a while, making orders from my shop. I'd love to see some of you there! c:

do you order code from other people's shops or strictly make your own work?

I only really make them for myself - I find it a little annoying when people who own signature shops get signatures by other people - feels a bit like false advertising.

well, I make my own work now, BUT back then, i used to order, (before i could code), but now that i can, i usually make my own <3. I agree with ahsoka though. Seems like false advertising if they own a signature shop and order a sig. I mean, it kinda makes the customers go "wow". but it'll be very different if they order from that person, they might be excited because of what they saw. It'll be best to make your own signatures if you own a signature/coding shop. You don't HAVE to but it will be less of false advertising. Sorry if this is a little.. offensive?

if I made a channel for learning to BBCode,
would you pitch in and make a few tutorials?

sure! that'd be fun,i'm not the best at video making or anything, so i might just have to get a few recording materials if this was for real. I always admired this idea, it just sounds so fun! I mean, it can be a little bit hard, and DD already exists.. So does AAN.But I don't see why i wouldn't pitch in and make a few tutorials, i love the idea of it so much, but it depends on how much time i have, and if i ever change my mind.

When I wasn't a very experienced coder (aka I didn't know squat), yes, I ordered two signatures from shops. This was actually what prompted me to start coding and expand my knowledge. Now, I do not order from someone else's coding shop, and I do not generally order any art or anything anyways. I only use my own work for personal code.

Why do you want to be a helper?:
A newbie came to you and needed help with getting the left right center aligned code to be tighter. How would you proceed to help them?:

The last questions is a test of some sort. This is to ensure that you are at a level where you can help people. By adopting a newbie, you will be asked a number of questions similar to the one in the code. Please be aware that you will be in an obligation for as long as a newbie needs help.

If there are any questions, please PM me. If there is any comments you wish to make on how this is run, please PM me. This is a case of me being thorough in trying to help as much as I can. Thank you all in advanced!

Since the thread's been dead for almost a day I thought I'd revive it a bit with a question:
What is your favourite colour scheme to use and why?

        Code: Select all
What is your favourite colour scheme to use and why?

I personally use greyscale a lot in my signatures because colour isn't my forté - I'd love to
be able to tell by eye what colours look beautiful together and which do not to create pr
        etty and colourful signatures. Alas.

I, too, prefer a more greyscale or monochrome signature. When I first saw a signature like that, I thought it looked odd without the colors, or perhaps even unfinished. But when I tried experimenting with it and saw what it was really all about with all of the different greys and blacks and whites, I finally realized it was a beautiful color scheme. Adding a bit of a splash of colors really makes it work well, too, and the colors stand out wonderfully. This is part of why I love doing manga-themed codes: they have the perfect color scheme, in my eyes.

So I remember awhile back, almost two years ago now, there was a fuss over whether people could technically "copy" coding. Certain people were claiming certain coding configurations as their own, but a moderate stated the idea of someone being able to claim coding as ridiculous. I wonder what are you guys opinion on the topic? Is coding an art form to a degree where people can "copy" or is it asinine to think so?

This is a strongly debated topic which can cause some heated discussion.
From a CS standpoint, layouts cannot be copyrighted. It can be seen as unfair, but technically one cannot copyright something they don't own, such as the ownage of BBC tools used to create a layout. It is like copyrighting the paint tool in Oekaki, because someone drew something and it is in the same style as someone else's work. You can't copyright a style or a layout.
I did an informational post about this for more information.

Personally speaking, considering I am in a business which copyright of a layout is a flaming hot topic, I agree with CS stance on this. It's a unfortunate matter of tough luck, and unfortunately using similar coding done by another makes problems. As to how to deal with the copying, one can report a post and mention the word 'plagiarism' and you might get somewhere with it, that is if a user copies the images you used and otherwise, more than just the layout.

With that said, Coding can be an art and BBC coding is a step into it easily before one steps into HTML.

What is your favourite colour scheme to use and why?
im starting to love having grey scale, and having one defying color,
like in my sig rn becuase it just looks soooo cool. for ex. this pic i edited in
photoshop, i just love the contrast, its hella appealing.
fall colors too is a nice scheme, reds yellows oranges, cos those are some
    of my fav colors.

    @arashikage
this really is a touchy subject.
but i remember once, back when i was just a baby coder,
the person who helped/taught me how to code, let me
"copy" her coding style for a bit until i developed my own.
and, at the time, it just meant that i could use her layout
which was something like three columns, 1;pic 2;text 3;pic
type deal. and she said to just paste my own coding into it.
but looking back onto it, she just gave me sort of a template
of sorts to start with? because i didnt edit pictures like she did,
didnt use the same text images, didnt use the same borders
    ect ect.
so coping anothers coding? maybe i could see that happening
because there are only x amount of ways to set up coding so
one couldnt copyright that/shouldnt try to copyright it.
but coping anothers style is something totally different. like
its hard to determine style sometimes in regards to coding, but
when you see certain sigs you can say, "oh hey, look its ___'s sig"
but still, idk if one could "copy" said style unless they use the
exact same images/text tht the other person used.
idk this is a really funky topic like how art can get but thts
just my jumbled opinion of the matter.

What is your favourite colour scheme to use and why?

I love using pastel colors. They are easy
to the eye and make everything flow in
my coding.

@arashikage

I'm neutral on the subject myself, however
I use in a sticky situation with this.

A few months ago, someone copied and
pasted my coding onto Advanced Scribes.
I don't use this website, but someone
told me about this. I was calm, and I
just thought "I'll just send CS a help ticket".

Well that didn't work, as CS said that
you can't claim or copy code. I was
then upset, because clearly someone
copied my code, even using the gifs
I used in my code.

I don't think before I do something,
so being the smart person I am, I
decided to rant about it on Tumblr.
I only had one note on my post but
I was already getting replies about it.

I was told to make a AS account and
tell the moderators, but to not say
the person copied it, but rather say
it was plagiarized. Well, I did just
that.

And it worked.

Now that person is crediting me
in their post. It's not off completely,
but it's better than nothing.
