oh my gosh I think I am a female alderpaw.
I got the apprentice's quest for my birthday [may 13th] and am up to page eighty-three.
spoilers!
so, alderpaw messed up as a warrior apprentice like myself and had low self-esteem. I, too, don't have much confidence in myself. then, he was moved to a different rank by bramblestar, jayfeather & leafpool and got happier. my mother made some changes to my routine and now have more confidence in myself too!

That's interesting. I like Alderpaw a lot, too.
(Maybe Spoilers IDK)
Alderpaw has an interesting personality to me, since he has low self-esteem. I feel bad for the little guy, since he thought he failed at being a warrior apprentice, when, really, it just wasn't his destiny. Poor little baby tried to impress Molewhisker, but failed. <:c

Since we're talking about the sixth arc here's my opinion on Sparkpaw.
Small Spoilers
Complete Mary Sue! Okay well not completely, but her first time hunting she caught one of the biggest pieces of prey! I get it that the Erins needed to make Alderpaw look bad, but why this way? And she always caught her prey and always found it even when they were walking and no other warrior would have or the prey would have run off by then. I'm not going to continue because I will keep going on and on and on about all the characters.
back on cs after being gone for four years!

I didn't like Sparkpaw that much. She seemed kinda bland to me... Just nearly perfect and, all she did on the journey is hate on Needlepaw.

Wait, how is Sparkpaw a Mary-Sue? She may have caught one of the biggest pieces of prey on her first try, but so did Bluestar (if I recall correctly) when she was an apprentice.
And sure, she might be a good hunter, but how does that make her nearly perfect? After all, good hunting is practically in her genetics with Sandstorm being her grandmother.
I prefer Alderpaw too. He's a precious cinnamon roll too pure for this world. But I don't hate Sparkpaw. And honestly, Warriors doesn't really have any Mary-Sues or Gary-Stus, at least in my opinion. Firestar? Nope. Dovewing? Nope. Spottedleaf? Nope. The closest characters we had to being Sues/Stus in Warriors were Spottedleaf and Jessy, and even they had flaws.

But Sparkpaw has never missed a piece of prey before. I believe that in some part of The Apprentices Quest it mentions that Sparkpaw was walking with the patrol, dropped into a hunter crouch randomly, and caught prey. She managed to smell a piece of prey besides not actually trying to, and also managed to catch it. Now I haven't read it in a while, so I could be wrong. It's possible for a cat to smell prey without trying to, but it's highly unlikely for a new apprentice who most likely just learned the scents.
I never meant to say that I hate Sparkpaw or whatever, and I know she has flaws, but I feel like her hunting was unrealistic for a new apprentice.

I feel like for me, the book was okay, but the thing that drove me was the fact that prey was practically falling into their paws.

Agreed. It's annoying when the Erins keep overusing the drama of no prey, but also annoying when the Warriors never struggle with catching it.
