Everything was okay here. Good. He exhaled softly and followed after him when Wildflight carried on. But panic once again found its way to him at his question. ... Turns out his failure of a conversation starter was a decent one, more or less. It still lingered. He thought over the question a bit, turning it over and over again in his mind until he saw it in a new light.
"Come along?" Rabbitfur asked, looking up at him. Come along, as in come from outside the Clan? "Oh." He forced a nervous chuckle, looking down at his paws as they walked. "I'm not sure about that. Of course, by the code, anyone is welcome to join, whether they be from a different Clan, half-Clan, or no Clan at all. ... But the code also declares not to have relations with anyone outside the Clan. No, and with my ... with my luck, she'd miss her old life and turn back to it when times are no longer ... shall we say, ideal, whether it be prey getting scarce, or any natural disasters that may befall the Clan." He cringed again, cursing himself for his awkwardness. "The Clan is ..." He hesitated, looking up at him as they walked, "my priority. It's my duty to give my life for it. I can't have myself be distracted." He had let it slip through his paws once. He wasn't going to let that happen again.
But then he considered his second question. Well, technically it built off the first question, so was it really a second question, or just a continuation of the first? ... He was overthinking this.
"An ideal mate ..." Setting duties aside, hypothetically of course, he thought about this. And, hypothetically, his interest in mollies was existant. "She'd wish to serve her Clan as top priority. Looks wouldn't matter, nor build. She'd give the Clan her all. And when she'd done her time, possibly wish to settle down and start a family. Of course, only if the Clan could in turn support them, that is. If not, or having kits simply isn't ideal, a close companionship wouldn't be too much. And, idealistically, we'd leave for StarClan, together." His gaze, which had glazed over from his fantasy, cleared as he shook his head. "But ... a mate like that is unrealistic. I don't have to be told this. Thankfully, I already know." Hey, maybe he'd gotten a hang of the conversation thing? He blinked at the spotted warrior and asked him: "What about your ideal mate? ... What is she like?"
