Oh come on. What is this?

No one in their right mind is going to pay that much for a rainbow smoothie - be it ultra rare or no.
It is still an item, and the Sunjewel is still the most popular dog on the entire site.

I doubt you can get even one sunjewel for the smoothie.

You could, and people have .___.; I've seen Auctions where people have bid multiple '08 July's. I'd never do it personally as I don't really collect items, but people WILL pay that much. And more.
[/quote]

Well, considering in the 08 July group we have sorbets, the grown white july, galaxies,
noncoon/nonswirl/nontag, I'm not surprised that the smoothie has gotten large bids.

However, the Sunjewel is so crazy popular that it went for two zebras - and the zebras
were still moderately popular back then. I wouldn't be surprised if you have to pay two freaking
moonswirls for one sunjewel these days.

And one moonswirl is worth like three nonswirls.

While we're discussing Sunjewels, Diabolic, would you possibly be able to clarify their value? I'm entirely not sure at all when people ask me if it's a fair trade. I've always thought that you should basically be paying a moonswirl + your soul for one.

Could you shine some light on this?

It's like twins. Pretend you know identical twins of the same gender, but one was born a couple of years earlier. For the sake of argument, they're somehow the same exact height and everything else. Cookie cutter twins. Will you treat them like regular siblings and give the older one more respect than the younger, even though they're literal clones? No, you'll treat them like twins, as though they were born at the same time like normal twins.

Do you get it? e_e;

But twins are born around the same time, not by years. o-o Unless you're talking bout two sets of twins? D8

How's this?

Think of it like books. You have 2 books: They're the same words, author, cover, quality - their only difference is they were printed at different times. They're still the same book, worth the same thing, they just have a different printing date in the front cover.
(Not exactly accurate, but same general concept)

Ah but some people value first edition books more than later editions. :B I do, however, like that metaphor a lot.

On the subject of true dates versus re-releases: it's all in the eye of the beholder. Some people see no difference. Some people want the pet to sit with the rest of the pets from that time period. And some people value true dates more simply because they were one of the few originals. There are many other reasons besides.

I, myself, enjoy the challenge of trying to get ahold of true dates - that's my reasoning behind it.

That would be a good metaphor if some readers didn't pay hundreds, even thousands of currency to get their precious 1st edition book. Same goes for trading cards and pretty much anything, to be honest. The 'original' sells for more and I think it's a bit conceited to think the same won't happen here.

Of course it is the SAME pet with the same exact rarity but the list on this thread takes in account both rarity and demand, yes? It's the same issue as me asking why the sun pups are rarer and most sought after than any other litter from the same month. It's DEMAND.

Hekomi & Jeweled wrote:The re-releases are just re-released versions of the older pets. A true date Sunjewel is worth the exact same as the re-release. It's just that people desire the true date more because then it will sit with their sunback/nonjewel, etc. A lot of the older pets are in their forever homes, so the re-releasing bring x amount more into the community. It lowers the value of ALL of these pets but only by a little bit. The overall worth isn't effected.

You just contradicted yourself. A true date is worth the exact same as a re-release, but people desire the true date more? That means there's more DEMAND for the true date than the re-release, making them vary.

You have no need to be so sharp.

Hekomi was explaining that a true date is in reality worth the same as any other pet. HOWEVER, to use your style of speaking, because of demand, the true date becomes worth more to some people. Key words: some people.

As we have already established, whether or not true dates are worth more depends on who you talk to. We are not saying that either side is wrong, so there is absolutely no need to argue. It's opinion based: I respect that you believe they are worth more, and so does Hekomi. I don't believe anyone on this thread ever said otherwise.

-- Jeweled

o_O;;; I think I was pretty clear. There is no difference in rarity but some like them more. Just because some people hold true-dates to a higher level than re-releases doesn't really make them more rare. It's like people who like the moonswirl more than the sunjewel. Their adoration of the moonswirl doesn't make it any more rare. Maybe in their eyes, but not all around

I can honestly say that I've had my first taste of "True Date Snobbery" if you want to call it that. Since the Advent Re Release this past year there are literally dozens of Sun Jewels all over everybody's signatures. It's like the site is being infested with them all of a sudden. I look at my true date Sun Jewel all of a sudden with a newfound appreciation for his release date. He's been around since before everyone had one.
