Cloudgaze could feel a blush creeping onto her face when he said 'we'. It implied that she would also find somebody new to love and even though she already had one tom in mind she wasn't so sure if he would reciprocate those feelings. Especially after all that had happened. "Y-Yeah. That could work." She mewed, stammering a bit because of her sudden embarrassment.

Leopardstripe 'stared' at Cloudgaze. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Cloudgaze quickly assured the tom. She went silent for a couple of heartbeats as she started to think. "Maybe..." She started, "Maybe I'll retire too. After my kits are apprentices." The queen loved her position in the nursery where she could help other queens with their own kits but joining the elders den with Leopardstripe was the least she could do after what she put him through. "I can keep you company." She added.

"No!" Leopardstripe got up, his fur poofing. He sat back down embarrassed. "No. I won't let you do that."

Cloudgaze developed a confused expression. "Why?" She asked with a frown, "I know I'm not always extremely interesting but I can't be the worst company." She figured that wasn't what he was talking about but she couldn't think of why else he would be so against her becoming an elder along with him.

"No, I mean, you can't become an elder. You have so much so do still." He replied, his ears swiveling.

"I hardly do anything around here. If there were no kits to look after I would be completely useless." Cloudgaze insisted, ears flattened against her head. "If you are going to retire because you are blind, then I should too."

"I'm not retiring because I'm blind. I'm retiring because I have no mate, my kits hate me, and I'm useless around here... not to mention, I attacked a leader." Leopardstripe sighed.

Cloudgaze felt like at least two, if not three of those things were her fault. "My mate doesn't love me anymore and I failed Owlfeather by not raising her kits well enough. Once my kits leave the nursery I won't be having any more. I won't fail anymore kits. But I will be useless then." She took Breezekit's choice of another mother very personally and contributed it to her own poor mothering skills. She wasn't trying to argue against Leopardstripe's reasoning for becoming an elder or trying to make her life seem any worse than his, she was simply venting now.

Leopardstripe laid next to Cloudgaze and groomed her pelt. "I understand that." He smiled. "If I don't become an elder, will you not become an elder?"
