Cloudgaze flinched back with a soft wince. This was all her fault. She could have ended this early on. She knew he was flirting with her and she even flirted back to an extent. "If thats what you want." She meowed softly. Why couldn't, by some miracle, Stripestar have not gotten him badly enough to permanently injure him like this? She would never forgive herself for this.

Leopardstripe got up, his ears flicking. "I'll see you later?" He asked silently, his tail lashing.

"Yeah." Cloudgaze murmured softly, "And please don't feel bad...We can't choose who we love." She frequently told herself this in an attempt to make herself feel better for liking Leopardstripe in the way she should like Stripestar.

Cloudgaze nodded even though the tom couldn't see it. "I do too." She said in a soft sigh. Even though Leopardstripe obviously wanted to leave, she wanted to confide in someone. Ever since Snowpelt's death he had been what she thought of as her closest friend. "I'm worried that Stripestar might be straying. He is awfully attached to Thrushleap. I can't just ask him about it though...He could either lie or tell the truth and I'm not sure which would be worse."

Leopardstripe sat back down, ready to help a friend. A friend. "I haven't seen anything..." obviously... "But I have heard them talking. I do agree with you, Cloudgaze. I don't think you should ask him until you have enough information about it, though." He sighed.

Cloudgaze frowned. So her suspicions must be true then of Leopardstripe had noticed the same things as she had. "I suppose your right." She said, "But it just makes me sick to think that whenever he is with me, he could be thinking about her." Cloudgaze might not feel much affection for Stripestar these days but at least she had the decency to try and stick through it. For the sake of their kits if nothing else. "What would I tell the kits if we broke up? Icekit idolizes him and I wouldn't want to make their father look like a bad guy. He is still their father after all."

"I know. Don't make the same mistake I did when I told my kits about Owlfeather. Instead, tell about the good times you and Stripestar had. Now Breezekit hates me because I insulted her mother." Leopardstripe mewed, nodding.

"They'll want a reason though. Do you think 'we grew apart' would be an acceptable enough answer?" Cloudgaze wanted to be prepared for any questions her kits might have. Later on when they grew up she might decide to tell the whole story, but even that was unlikely. She didn't want her kits to grow up disliking their own father.

"I think 'We found new soulmates' would be a good answer." Leopardstripe smiled. "It's like telling them about true love."
