xxEris is a quiet and kind soul who likes to keep to themself. Crowds do not bother them, however, and neither does speaking to large groups. They simply prefer to stay away from the busy and rambunctious lifestyle that many other members of royalty live. The ones who are constantly off on expensive trips and buying lavish clothes. Eris doesn't think that they're vain or judge them in any fashion. But they do have their opinions.
xxThe outside presents a pretty good idea of what you get with Eris. Not dark in the gloomy sense of the word, but rather the humorous sense of it. They're attracted to the dark things in the world, and even more to the jokes stemming from the darkness. It horrifies their family and usually disgusts strangers when Eris says one of their jokes. They finally got to the point where they don't even bother with their jokes unless they're positive someone is into it, too. Some are not as disgusted as they are shocked that Eris, quiet little Eris, has a dark sense of humor.
xxIf Eris is anything else, it's opinionated. Not in some silly fashion were they judge someone purely on looks, no. Eris is one of the few who notices how someone does their job. If you do your job correctly, Eris loves you. If not, they secretly loathe you. They still treat everyone the same when in person, but they wouldn't hesitate to voice their thoughts if needed. This is quite usually done in a sly manner, using small comments and sneaky remarks. They let off when someone catches on, but only then.
xxBeyond their kindness and opinionated views is the intense desire to learn. Nothing really pleases Eris like a beautiful story or a complicated lesson. School was always a pleasure and kept them sharp. They sought out books on the history of their land and the folklore that originated from their home. Learning wasn't another burden; they instead saw it as an adventure.
xxThe deepest layer of Eris is their overall determination. Many don't see Eris as the type to chase what they want because they don't see what Eris wants. While others chase riches and glory, they chase their biggest dreams. While they are rather hesitant to share said dreams, they aren't hesitant to chase them. So they write and they write, determined to find more ways to perfect it. Determined to one day be brave enough to show the world their passion.

xxxxxxxxxxxxEris's Story
xxSince their youth Eris knew that they'd one day inherit the throne to their kingdom. They never desired the power or title, though, not even the riches that came with it. They simply couldn't see the appeal in being in control of the land. They instead sought peace in being alone, reading up on the country's lore and history. The many battles and evil leaders fascinated Eris when written on paper; when faced with the prospect of facing such a situation in the real world, however, they would flee quickly. Not a coward per say, simply a peace maker and seeker. Violence and bloodshed is senseless loss, and they instead seek out solutions which involve treaties. Of course their parent's do approve to an extent, but they both feel as if their only child would make a poor ruler.
xx Eris's first test came to them early on in life. The king, ecstatic to at last have a heir, took them out on a hunting trip with several of his advisors. They'd been hunting all day, and everyone had made one kill, except for young Eris. Their father stopped them in a small clearing, pointing out a deer up ahead. He squatted down beside his child, handing them a bow. "This is your moment, Eris. Your moment to shine. To show us what you'll one day do on the throne." Eris held the bow in their hand, staring at it. The beautiful surface, their name carefully and elegantly carved into it, gleaming in the early light. They looked back up at the young buck ahead, its horns just barely showing atop its head. They looked back at their father, expectantly watching. Eris stood with bow in hand, eyeing the young creature before them. They looked back at their father once more, before heaving the weapon at the creature. It was spooked and took off, leaving the hunting party in disbelief of what they had just witnessed. Was their future leader weak? No, surely the child was being humorous. But all of their prodding of Eris confirmed their suspicion: Eris had done it purposefully.
xxAfter the initial hunting trip speculations arose in the royal court. The king brushed it off as a child being a child. But as the years wore on and Eris still showed no interest in participating in anything with the other royal families their mother had had enough. She pulled Eris away from the kingdom for a week to "straighten the child up." Manners, proper attire, table etiquette, polite discussion topics. Eris tried to appease their mother, but it was all lost on them. What point was there in using different spoons and discussing politics? None. But Eris learned it, remembered it all. They learned the names of their father's court and the other royalty from nearby kingdoms. They were determined to prove themselves. All was going well up until their mid teens when they made a royal mistake.
xxA local paper had just started up and Eris, wanting to work on their writing skills, sent in an anonymous application. They had their own courier deliver it so their identity would remain secret. They were surprised to receive a reply - a letter detailing their new job. Eris's excitement was short lived, however, upon reading that their main focus was politics. They had hinted at a political background when applying, so it came as no surprise to Eris. They bitterly agreed and began speaking with the owner of the paper through letters. Eris's first task was to talk about the kingdom to the North and their sudden presence on the borders. Was war soon to ensue? Eris had been one of the first to learn of their presence and knew what they had wanted, but it certainly wasn't their information to share. But was offering up the thought of war a good idea? Eris instead spun up a story not far from the truth - perhaps they were struggling with drought. Their little article was published and, from what they heard, it calmed the public. Soon the assignments were pouring in, asking about their opinions on one of their father's advisors or about the treatment of the townsfolk. Eris only supplied their true opinion to the paper. It took an angry rant from their father at dinner to truly understand what their writing was doing. The towns people were reading Eris's articles, and they savored every word. Their voice was finally being heard.
xxIt wasn't until a year later when Eris realized they were in too deep. Several days before their birthday celebration they were asked to voice their thoughts on the royal heir. Eris hesitated for the first time since getting the job. If they didn't say anything it would practically give their identity away. But they couldn't just lie, either. They were torn. They took their time writing it, going off of stories they knew were circulating throughout the public. They sent it out the day before their birthday, hoping for the best. The next day they stopped worrying and tried to enjoy their birthday. Visitors from neighboring kingdoms, family from all over, even the townsfolk. They acted as proper as they possibly could, presenting themself in a classy fashion. Still, they saw the odd looks and exchanged whispers. Something was off.
xxAt the end of the day everyone was escorted out. The king approached them and asked them to see him in his study. Eris didn't know what to expect. When they arrived they saw the newspaper on his desk. On the front-page, in large letters, was Eris's name, announcing them as the controversial writer.

Pet peeves: For some reason, whenever they see anyone chewing on their nails, they are instantly annoyed to no end. They're not sure why this is, but it happens nonetheless.
Pets: In their early teens a merchant visited the castle. Among the goods he had was a small parakeet that he was trying to give away. It had looked 'sickly' and acted 'strange.' They took the bird in for themselves and nurtured it, giving it the love it needed. Eris named the bird Foster after their favorite fictional character.
Favorite season: Mid-fall has always been Eris's favorite time of the year. The weather is cool, the perfect mix of the summer heat and winter cold. The colorful trees and festivals also offer Eris relaxation time.
Favorite food: Potato soup! They feel as if it perfect for anytime of the year. Spring? Add some fresh seasonings! Summer? Let it cool and have a day at the lake! Fall? Vegetables! Winter? Melt in some delicious cheese!
Favorite candy: When they were young they visited the town outside of the castle. A local candy shop made up special candies for the occasion - but, unfortunately, they ended up getting stolen. This left the worst selling candies in the shop: sour candycanes. Eris immediately took a liking to them, and buys them from the same shop often.
Favorite color: Their home is surrounded by trees and deep forests. Since they spent a vast amount of time in said forests, they took a liking to the green shades of the wild.
Favorite book: Our Land, Our Home, a book written in Eris's country. It contains the tall tales, fables, and myths from all the land. The information and detailed descriptions of the stories bring them to life in their mind, regardless if they're true or not.
Favorite drink: A soothing mug of hot tea calms their nerves and puts them in a relaxed state. They don't prefer any one type of tea, but green tea would certainly be Eris's first choice.
Favorite flower: Magnolias. Since first seeing one in a neighboring country, the flowers powerful aroma and startling beauty has fascinated them.
Favorite animal: Though they've never had the pleasure of owning one, they have always had a soft spot for dogs. They've always wanted one, but their father insisted that it must be a hunting dog.
Favorite creature: What could be more captivating than a huge fire breathing reptile? Nothing. They dreamed of one day saving their true love from a dragon when they were younger. They would never do that now for various reasons.
Favorite sport: Being outdoors and participating in sports are very different things as Eris learned. They quickly moved away from the brutal and aggressive sports that many pushed Eris into. They instead found an outlet in swimming their worries away.
Favorite fruit: Nothing compares to the tangy flavor of tangerines. The almost sour flavor of the fruit is something that Eris absolutely loves.
Favorite holiday: The Fall Festival, a holiday cerebrated all across the land. It is the only time of the year when all of the kingdoms are at peace with one another and people travel the land freely. Freshly harvested vegetables and handmade crafts are sold throughout by the townsfolk of each village.
Favorite snack: Potato chips! Spicy, salty, savoury, and even sweet. There are so many different flavors that they don't have a favorite - there's simply too many out there!
