I would say if your parent say no try tell them there will be babies if they don't get another cage or keep asking or just try save up for one.

well keep an open mind.. Its either one more cage or 5 more in the future when your birds breed and have babies. Make sure she knows its for the best and will prevent them from breeding and making 10 more birds.

Yea I told her everything that you told me.My dad is more of a animal person than my mom, but he probably is going to think we don't need a another cage.My mom says 'They would've already bred if they were going to....' and my dad says 'We don't need another cage....'.What time of year do budgies breed?I got all my budgies in like, November or December of last year.

Breeding season is now.. They wouldn't have bred back then, now is the time. You really need to separate them if you don't want babies. A 75$ cage is cheaper than raising babies!

....You can 'control' breeding season for indoor birds though?? It's not that difficult?? Separating a potentially bonded pair would be more harmful to them than attempting to solve the problem.

@Mira, Make sure that your pair gets 12-14hrs of darkness every night to help simulate the seasons that do not trigger their hormones. If there is a nestbox or anything that could potentially be used as a nestbox (happy hut, etc), remove it from the cage.
You can look up hormone reduction control techniques and find much more information. This particular article is directed at cockatiel but has a lot of information that could be useful in your situation: http://littlefeatheredbuddies.com/info/ ... mones.html

There's no 100% reliable way to get a male and female pair of birds to not breed other than to not let them interact, or supervise their interactions outside of cage. Birds will be birds and just letting them have more time in the dark will certainly not work for most cases.
Breeding isn't all giggles and glitter, and it is usually very harsh on the female bird. There is not point to breed birds in captivity, and if she does not want baby birds, buying another cage and possibly another male bird is her best bet to keep her birds happy and healthy. Female birds fall ill, and sometimes die from improper breeding because of owners keeping them together 24/7 in the same cage.
Separating two birds who were once bonded for 7 months is not going to kill them like breeding them might, and making it darker for longer is not going to stop the birds from wanting to breed especially since this is captivity and these birds are probably 20th generation+ captive bred; They will not respond to certain stimulus like wild or 2nd generation captive parrots would.
Separating 2 birds is sometimes hard and tough on the birds but what's harder is waking up every 3 hours to feed baby birds you didn't even want because the mother passed after having the eggs or just stopped taking care of them, because that happens a lot too. Not all birds will lay in a nest-box, we have had cases of birds just sitting on the bare cage floor and having babies.

That's great news to hear that it wasn't something serious! If he doesn't take to veggies at first, try to offer them in a different way. Try to cook them, steam them ( let them cool of course ), cut them tiny, leave them whole, juice them, add them to food, put them in toys, shred them, kabob them.. There's so many ways birds will eat veggies and some are picky picky! Nash only eats them cooked and cut really really small :P

to take out the nesting place can make the female sick and kill her because she may not lay eggs....and this is bad.. most birds Need a place to put eggs..or simple sleep... ...to seperate a bondet pair most often does make them sick too(but when you get them a bird of the same gender as Partner when they are not fully bonded or only together since some time...it could work...) but never alone...they are swarm animal and atleast ned there Partner...to give hormones...not sure if this cant kick back...
ask your vet what they think....and maybe try with a breeder to find a same gender bird for each as Partner so that they dont stay alone but with an other bird they like...

But....
There is one simple way...

mark each egg, cook it, cool down and put it back...then take the next egg and do the same....or put in fake eggs...the bird will stopp nesting after some time as nothing hatches...but be careful you Need to feed extra to your female..Mineral Vitamin and such to Keep them healthy.
it may Sound mean, but when you dont want many many birds at home that nobody buys after some time as you Need to find new homes for each bird hatched...it is what most breeder or bird pet owner do when they dont want Babys.
Please klick them or they will die°°!!!

@ ℓιттℓє gαмєѕ :
thats nice with the macaw, how tame are they; Do you do tricks with them?
i did hear that they can become extrem tame and follow there owner...how are yours? ^^
where do you keep them? large outside or inside aviary? and where did you got the aviary :?:
Do you have pictures of them?

( last time i did see a video with a sort of harness where the birds could fly around in near freedom and where trained to come back to the owner some of them even could go fly after some years training without the harness and did come back after the call of the owner and walked around with them on the shoulder (one with one without harness thing)...but i think only macaw seem to get so tame. they had so much fun.

i did want a pair of Golden-collared macaw...but till the new aviary stands it will not happen...and then they need to like my greys.
and i love hyacinth...but way to expensive when buying and keeping for me for now...maybe in the future when i have more money, place and larger aviary^^)

---> but one thing you maybe should be very careful with...cockatiel to parrots...they can be carriers with an infect or what ever, that they do not show but with this can make a parrot sick ... i only read of it some time back when my mother asked if i would not put my bird together with a pair of them...

thats not the site i read it, but i dont find it in the moment, but this has also some info about what to watch out with new birds, like cockatiels, lovebirds and parakeets, and some other...that you want to bring together with parrots...
https://www.beautyofbirds.com/psittacosis.html
https://www.beautyofbirds.com/cockatieldiseases.html

i hope your new bird is fully tested for anything possible...and is healthy, not that the macaw when they are healthy get sick, it must not happen, some never had a Problem with one of this birds and there parrots, but to be careful with a new pet is bether^^

Actually all parrots can become tamed to be harness flightes and taught tricks. Here's a girl who taught her parrotlets 20 tricks. Here's the same girl who has her birds do outdoor exercises on harnesses.
Nash is being harness trained and know 2 other tricks, Spin and Wave. All parrots big and small have the capability to be taught tricks!(:

Hello bird chat! My family wants to get a pet soon, but my parents dislike many small animals and reptiles, and pet fees make us hesitant to pick a cat or dog.
Are there any birds I should research, or do you think birds are a bad idea for first time owners? I've read that a handful of finches would be comparatively quiet and easy, but I want to make sure that I don't choose a bird that needs hours of interaction that I can't give.
