Do you own a dog?:
Yes, I have 1.

Favorite dog breed?:
well, aesthetically I love Australian Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, APBTs, and Doberman Pinschers. but realistically i would never be able to handle any of these breeds. (not quite sure about the doberman, i don't know much about them)

I'm in love with Standard Poodles. I've been contacting breeders and stalking rescue sites. I just love the poodle. I want a smart, active dog that also has an off switch. I also love the Lagotto Romagnolo and the Smooth Collie.

Tell us about your dog(s), if you have any!:
I have a miniature poodle mix that we adopted as a puppy. the "breeder" surrendered the litter to our local spca. we think she's mixed with cocker spaniel, which makes her short and stocky and not tall and lanky. Penny is 10 in August, so i cannot do any sports with her unfortunately. the vet says her old joints wouldn't like it.

Pictures of your dog(s):

Can anyone recommend a good product for joints? Molly has always been a great jumper and tree climber but with all the jumping she does I think she needs to take something to help her joints out.

Also does anyone give there dog anything after an intense workout? I usually just hose Molly down since we have really hot summers here its easy for a dog to over heat. But I feel like maybe she gets sore or something? I know I do after an intense workout, so is it the same for dogs and is there a product to help with that?

@cardigan
You don't need certification in the US for an emotional support animal, you just need the doctor's recommendation. That's how I got Harley, he's my ESA.

@Shadow~Wolf
Such a cute puppy!!
Harley would have torn that monkey up by now, he ripped the squeaker out of his hedgehog just in the ride home :P
Also, thinking about a puppy does no harm. I've been thinking about getting a rough collie puppy since I was young. I have Harley and all my focus is on him, but that doesn't mean I still look at rough collie puppies for sale. I'm not going to get one for a few years, but it doesn't hurt to think about it and look. Just give Lucky lots of TLC and he will be back to normal in no time!!

In Canada there's a little bit more paperwork - primarily info about me and my pup.
I'm seeing a doctor Sept 20 to see if they'd sign off on the recommendation form.

Oddly enough, here in Canada, there's two kinds of mental support dogs - ESAs and Psychiatric Service Dogs (PSDs).
ESAs are not allowed special priviledges aside from being allowed in some apartment buildings and houses that originally were dog-free. Since I need Lola to be able to go places like the grocery store, there's additional PSD paperwork.

Has anyone else heard about the new trend of buying a service dog vest for your pet for the sake of being able to take them places? Personally, I find it quite sad, as there are people like who me who actually benefit from the assistance from a dog.

I use Zuke's Hip Action daily supplement treats. Each one has 300mg of glucosamine and 300mg of chondroitin.

If you're looking to cool Molly down, cooling bandannas may be an option. It's like a regular bandanna, but you soak it in cold water for five seconds to let the crystals woven in absorb the cold. The "mist" setting on a multi-option hose is usually our favourite method. As for soreness, simple massages are excellent! If it grows severe, see your vet. <3

As for the joint question, if if grows to where she may have issues, I advise taking her to the vet. I can suggest Cosequin though, I give it to my catahoula/pit mix Duke who has had hip dysplasia for many years (he also unfortunately has heart worms... We aren't sure how much longer he has :( as he is also getting older.) but as I have seen my newest dog Sunshine seemingly with stiff joints, I am going to try Cosequin with her as well and see if it helps her. Good luck! Hopefully you'll get something that does work well with your dogs.

I have seen those before I'll have to try them out, no corn to so that's always a plus. I have never heard of a cooling bandanna, that's interesting. I have that hose! Lol I use the mist option on her after the workout and I also use it to wash her face when I'm bathing her. I'm gonna look those bandannas up though sounds like a great buy for the summer time!

I am so sorry for your pup having HD and heart worms! It must be hard, best wishes to him! <3

I just looked up the Cosequin, not sure if I should test out the "Cosequin DS Joint Health Supplement Plus MSM for Dogs Tablets" or "Cosequin Standard Strength Dog Chews"..? She doesn't have joint issues at the moment so would it be necessary to get the maximum strength or should I just get the standard one?

I went to an Arabian horse show today and someone brought their Salukis! They were a bit overwhelmed by the crowd so I didn't get any good pics but they were stunning <3

I have a cooling mat for Chloe that I take with me for when it's hot out. http://www.thegreenpetshop.com/cool-pet-pad.html

I would talk to your vet about supplements if you're concerned about her joints. Does she show any pain after a workout that makes you think there's a problem or are you just looking at preventatives? Glucosamine and chondroitin are both good thing but if you can make sure there's enough in their diet naturally you probably don't need to supplement.

If she'll let you, and nice massage after a heavy workout would be good for her.

She doesn't show any pain its just how hard she lands sometimes makes me cringe, I feel like all the jumping she does probably puts stress on her joints and I just don't want her to have any problems. But I don't want to stop her from doing something she loves either so I thought maybe a joint supplement could help if help is needed. But I'll definitely ask my vet!

If she's jumping in a specific area, such as from one tree, is there any way you could pad the area? That could help cuishion the landing at least.
