potion // jack's actually s'posed to have glasses, but she's a total nerd and hates wearing them in public. so, she's got a little potion she keeps in her bag labelled "almost 20/20." it's called that because even though it's supposed to help her vision, sometimes it can malfunction and have some... side effects. in fact, jack actually used to have hair.
story
Soft grass. The sound of rustling meadows. A cool autumn breeze.
It all sweeps over you.
You’re standing in an empty field. On one side, it abruptly ends with a steep, seemingly bottomless chasm. On the other, it stretches for miles, and you can barely make out mountains in the distance.
Suddenly, you hear something. Wading through the tall grass to find the source, you realize that it’s someone tuning some kind of instrument.
Someone begins to play a tune. Now you can tell that the instrument is a lute. Cocking your head, you wonder how on earth someone could have gotten their hands on a lute. You haven’t heard one of those for many years.
You almost stumble into the chasm, but something grabs your arm. You turn around to see that it’s a small black spirit, with huge eyes and some kind of blue liquid dripping from its hands. Beginning to thank it, it cuts you off and raises its index finger to its mouth.
You shut your mouth, and the lute playing becomes louder. Someone begins to sing in a voice that almost sounds like it’s through a radio. It crackles and sounds almost monotonous, but it’s charming nevertheless.
“Can you take me to her?” you whisper to the spirit. It nods and zips away.
Sprinting after it, you soon become exhausted. The singing becomes louder and louder, but it’s never so loud that it hurts. You catch a glimpse of something- it’s a medium sized willow tree, its branches hanging over the edge and it’s roots almost falling off the edge of the cliff. Inside, you see a small shadow. Now, you can hear what the voice is singing- it’s a rather cafard melody, and it makes you smile sadly.
You approach the shadow, and make it out to be a small-statured witch doll. She doesn't stop playing or singing, and you're glad. It's oddly captivating.
Seating yourself at the very edge of the cliff, you swing your legs, surprisingly not even affected by the seemingly endlees drop.
An instrument break comes into the music, and the witch speaks. "My name's Jack. I deal potions 'round here."
You don't bother to tell her your name, because you feel she already knows it. "Why am I not scared?"
Jack chuckles. "Kiddo, that's the kind of effect I got on people. No spells or nothin'. Don't fall off, though."
You sigh. "Do you have a lonliness potion?"
Jack looks at you, concerned, but doesn't stop playing. "You got no friends, kid?"
Glancing to the side, you answer unsteadily. "I've been wandering around for days with nobody but me and the flowers."
"The flowers n I, kiddo," she corrects you.
"Who are you to correct my grammar?" you laugh. Internally, you're surprised that you're making friends with a stranger this quickly.
"It's 'cause you've been isolated," Jack seemingly reads your mind. "Kid, I got a deal. You help me out and feed Tulip-" she gestures to her shadow "- and you can travel with us to the next town."
Starting to giggle, you find it hilarious that such an intimidating and dark creature would be named "Tulip." "Somethin wrong, kiddo?" Jack actually sounds a bit concerned as you collapse to the ground in laughter.
After a good 30 seconds of unrestrained giggling, you stand up unsteadily and straighten yourself out. "O-oh, it's nothing," you choke out, trying incredibly hard not to burst into hysteria again. "It's a deal."
You reach out and the doll stops playing to grab your hand. You look into her eyes, and smile.
Shaking hands, she grins. "Welcome to the party, at least temporarily!" she announces happily, jumping up and letting the loot thump onto the willow roots.
You're already excited to begin your journey.
likes: pretending to eat, gathering flowers, traveling and delivering potions
dislikes: technology, large groups of people, smelly things, her glasses
sexual orientation: panromantic asexual
occupation: Jack travels around and delivers her potions to those who need it. Most of the time, she doesn't require payment, unless they're like super rich or something. Her shadow, Tulip, follows her around and provides her with the liquid dripping from him. She uses this liquid kind of like an eye drop, and it helps her vision.
