Yeah and it's weird too

It has something to do with the chemical make up of their brains, if I remember correctly. Catnip affects cats in certain ways as a stimulant, and young kittens lack the chemicals that the catnip reacts with. I thought it was interesting. Very old cats are affected less as well.

I'm not totally positive but when I bought some before it was for the kittens we had... Which were way under three months old as two of our cats managed to have two litters at the same time before we managed to spay them.

I guess it's younger cats have less of to actually know it, and older cats (10 years +) lost some so they also have less to remember of it


It's amazing how a relationship of a dog and a cat can actually work. It's always stereotyped that they hate each other, but it's untrue. My neighbor's dog, Cuddles, actually grooms, greets, and plays with my half blind cat, Midna. Before, they did not get along very well, but now, every time she sees Cuddles, she runs out of the house to go see her.

In other news, my Grandad has a new kitten. She's a tabby with a few white splashes. My Uncle rescued her, took her to the vets etc. and then decided that my Grandad needed a new kitten. He was, at first, hesitant to have a new cat, but he has a soft spot for her really. Her name's Mindy and she gets on with Marty really well. I don't know what breed she is, but I know she's some sort of longhaired breed.

Seeing all the people on the thread with cats over 10 makes me so happy. My cats are all around 2 years old, so it's nice to know that I have so much more time with them haha.

My oldest cats ( biological sisters) are about 6.

My dogs get on really well with Artemis because they were introduced when Arty was a kitten. My other cats, not so much, because they met our dogs when they were about nine-ish.

Jessie and Arty tend to play fight a lot, which is cute. Arty will lie on his back and grab at Jessie's paws as she walks past. It's adorable, haha.

But my Aunt's cat was killed by her friend's terriers. Like, I won't get too gory, but basically my Aunt's cat was ripped apart. Yeah, pretty horrid, poor kitty. She lived to about sixteen/seventeen though. My Aunt still has one cat left, and he's nearly twenty now!

I'm on the waiting list for a Basenji puppy, and my cats wont ever be left alone with him when he comes home. The breed is too well known for their prey drive, and I'm not willing to risk my kitties.

Of course, it helps that if he's in his crate he can't destroy the house too xD

Wow. I read that the oldest cat lived to 27.
