I am moving soon, and my mom said "we can get a cat when we move in and settle in".
I want to get a good cat breed, I read up on them and I think I want to get a female scottish fold. They are so cute, clingy and I heard from someone that females don't shed as much as males ;)

try getting new toys, or toys if you dont have any, cat trees and stuff to keep him or her from wanting to go outside. Move them around when he or she finds them, he or she will most likely play with them then go outside.

Well, the more obvious thing would be to not let them get outside.
Close doors after yourself, tell your family to do the same, don't leave open windows unattended (or get some sort of bug-screen type thing, if you leave them open a lot). And make sure to engage your cats in some activities. It's likely they want to go outside because living inside isn't stimulating enough. So get them some toys, something to climb and scratch, some catnip, maybe some leaves and sticks from the outside to play with, etc.

I really want an indoor cat, we already have a dog and chickens but my dog would probably be fine with them ( she's been around lots of animals including rats and mice ). My mom only wants a senior cat ( 10-15 years old) which I'm fine with, because our spca constantly has senior cats ( usually because they don't want an older cat, or their owner died) and the one that caught my eye is a female 10 year old blue cream tortoiseshell. I fell in love with her beautiful green and blue eyes. She seems extremely healthy, and is described as one of the sweetest cats in the world. She would work out perfect with my family because she can't be around kids and other cats ( we have some cats on our street but she'd be indoors ). I'm guessing by kids they meant under 10?

My one problem is that I don't know how to convince my parents. It costs 85$ to adopt a senior cat, which I would easily get, but my parents always think we aren't responsible enough.. I really love this cat so if anyone has any tips that'd be really great <3
Thanks !

i didn't really get any responses to this, and I don't really want to get in the middle of it as I don't even own a cat and probably don't understand. Everyone has really cute cats though, and I hope I can get one soon <3

Well. Show more responsibility by feeding and watering your chickens and dog and maybe clean out the chicken's pen every week. I have dogs chickens and cats so I have experience. Maybe clean the house a bit.

As I know Funsized IRL and am a friend of hers:
She feeds and waters her chickens often and even plays with them. She does the same for her dog, and walks her dog often.
She also cleans the house a lot.

It's not really a matter of her being responsible, it's a matter of her parents believing she is.

    @ CookieSnap
    I've tried telling him to sit and then giving him a treat when he does but I'm not sure if he's actually learned to sit when told or he just wants to sit down. I hadn't thought of using hand signals as well as sounds so I'll try that, thank you :)

    @Anaphea
    I've been trying to get my hands on a clicker for a while but I wouldn't know where to get them from, they'd probably sell one at Pets At Home but I think they'll be expensive there. Thank you for your advice!

    @SilverCrescentMoon
    Good luck with training your cat :)
    That video is so cute, I'd love to train a cat to that extent...I watched a programme the other day (can't remember the name) and it was showing cats that were used in films and stuff. They showed the Persian that was in Harry Potter ^^.

    I need advice on something else. I've noticed lately that my cat is very clingy and attached to me, he follows me around everywhere and will sit outside a door meowing until I let him in or come out. It's worrying because the college I'm going to be starting soon is over a hour & a half - two hours from where I live so I won't be back until late on most days, I don't want to cause him more anxiety but I don't know what to do. I know it affects him when I'm not there because my dad says he cries a lot more. Would him coming from a multi-cat household before I got him have anything to do with it?

I got my clicker from Pets at Home. As far as I recall, they're not that expensive. But it was a while ago, so I'm not sure.

As for the other problem, try getting him used to it slowly and gradually. It sounds like he's becoming too dependent on human contact, so just leave him for about ten minutes, then twenty, then thirty etc. Give him some toys if he likes them or something to keep him distracted. If he meows for attention, don't give him attention. If you do, you won't help him become less anxious. It's hard and sounds harsh, but you'll have to ignore him for this to work.

Coming from a multi-cat household could be part of the problem. How long have you had him?

    I'll go have a look for clickers when I get the chance then, if I get a job during the summer I should be able to afford one.
    I've had him since October/November so a while...He actually spends a lot of time on his own already because my parents are divorced so I spend two-three days at my mums. Then my dad works a lot so I have to spend most days at my grandparents. We actually considered another cat at one point as a way to help him but then it came out that it would cost too much to have two cats.
