What Shoko lacks in voice, she makes up for in personality. She is quite the expressive Kalon, and depending on the situation has a bit of a temper too. In situations of excitement or panic, you'll normally find her waving her arms around and jumping up and down to get people's attention. If she's really desperate, she might just try to speak, only to let out a hoarse wheeze. She's very kind and accepting of people, often greeting them with a smile and a 'hello' (in sign, of course). She's pretty hopeful when it comes to social interaction, but also pretty antsy. Some of her nervousness from when she was younger carried on with her. She's normally pretty nervous about whether they'll be bothered by her muteness or having to read what she says if they don't know sign. Shoko has also become very good at hiding her emotions behind a smile. This is typically because of the fact that sometimes she's feels like a nuisance, and feels that she's better off not bothering people with her feelings as well. She also has quite a bad tendency of getting frustrated easily, often resulting in lots of wheezy attempts to let her anger out and pacing. She also doesn't seem to take kindly to those who made fun of her appearance.

'hello, my name is shoko funigishi' the black marker took up most of the page, and in significantly tinier writing it read: 'i cannot speak, so if you want to talk to me...' the girl stood there awkwardly for a moment before realizing she had to flip the page. She craned her neck over the notepad to see, pricking her ears a little before feeling her face grow slightly red. She flipped the page at last. '...look at this notebook. i look forwards to meeting you all!!' With that she grinned widely, looking over all of the... Less than friendly faces of her peers. She heard whispering among them, and then laughter. She smiled awkwardly, sweeping her tail around her legs a little. "Now, miss Funigishi... You can take a seat." Her teacher nodded to her and she made her way over to the nearest empty seat near the window. The person next to her glanced over, causing Shoko to quickly write down a 'nice to meet you' and show it to them with a smile. The girl flicked a bit of black hair out of her face turned away with a scoff. Shoko stared blankly for a moment, a bit disappointed. It seemed the same as the last school, however she assumed it was just because she was new.

High school || Kalon 161 tryout

'Hi.' She gestured with her hand, starting at her forehead and flicking it outwards. The students stared at her quietly, a bit confused. They hadn't expected someone to just... not speak. The moment of silence was unsettling for her, and she awkwardly gulped a little. 'My... My name is Shoko Funigishi." again with silence and confusion. It didn't seem like anyone had understood a lick of what she had signed... She took a shaky breath and smiled, turning around and picking up a piece of chalk. There she began to write out her name, and how she was glad to meet everyone. Her peers craned their necks to see around her, though she stepped out of the way just a moment after. She placed the chalk down and turned around with a smile. For a second, she hadn't realized she had forgotten to write that she was mute. She turned quickly and scribbled it on. As she stepped out of a way, a wave of understanding for her lack of speech seemed to wash over the class. After a moment, she bowed and made her way over to an empty seat, sitting down with a tiny nod and smile to the person next to her.

She hoped this would be anything like junior high... And she was right. She didn't think it was possible, but it seemed it had gotten worse. If people weren't down right ignoring her, they were being annoyed, or bothering her. Before, she could just sink into the back and basically disappear, with the occasionally pestering. She was able to put up with it for the most part, masking her annoyance with a tiny smile, however sometimes enough is enough. Her shoes clacked the tile and echoed slightly in the nearly empty hallway. She pressed her books close to her chest and sighed quietly. This was going to be a bit difficult to get through, but she suspected she'd be able to. The sound of other footsteps behind her broke her train of thought. "So, how do you think she stays so happy anyway? It's not like anyone even likes her..." She heard a voice behind her and froze, gulping quietly.

Three girls danced their way in front of her grins on their faces. "So how do you do it, is it an act?" One of them spoke as the walked closer to her, cause Shoko to step back slightly. She shrugged slightly, though another one began to speak and she made her way closer as well. "Maybe we should test that little smile of yours?" In an instant, she ran forwards before Shoko had a chance to react and smacked her books out of her hands, kicking them to the side before she could bend down to pick them up. She was too shocked to do anything, though her face hardened slightly. "So, how does it feel? No one cares about you or anything you 'say'." Shoko tensed slightly, a frown materializing on her face. She took a deep breath before leaning down to pick up her books, only for one of the girls to shoulder her out of the way.

"Come on, get mad already!" She grinned widely as Shoko took a deep breath and exhaled through her nose. She wasn't going to let them get to her. In
