This makes more sense to me.
Gerbils are much larger than mice, so I would think gerbil newborns would be larger like the rats. These are still pretty small. And we don't have any other actual mice, I'd like to see more.

But gerbils are closer in size to hamsters, and that is what the line art is based on (right?)...plus the ears are tiny for mice And my mouse was about the size of my gerbils...but he was a chubby boy.

Not all mice have huge ears! Pet mice, specifically show mice, are bred with really, really big ears. However, some lines have smaller ears than others... it just depends on the breeding of the mouse.

Baby mice and rats have teeny tiny ears, they just get big as they grow. It could be mice or gerbils, and the lineart would not be incorrect for either c:

I really doubt it, since we only have three colours in a gradient and the litter is so small. I honestly just expect 3 outcomes with each colour as the base - one purple, one blue, one green pony.

of course, only the artist can answer this. but weeeeell. seems so unlikely.
