"Welcome, one and all, to the star cruiser Zodiac! The greatest starship ever created by the Andromeda Corporation, the Zodiac represents centuries of technological progress, as the first ship to incorporate a fully functional dimensional hyperdrive, making it possible to travel to star systems billions of light years away! And you are one of the lucky few chosen to accompany us on our maiden voyage, to the distant Andromeda galaxy- the namesake of our company. Our flight will take us to- to- to- Hello? Is anyone there? This is the captain, requesting emergency help! We've had an accident coming out of hyperdrive; our hyperflight systems are down and our comm- communications are fai- failing! Please, se- send- send help-"
- Last transmission sent by the starship Zodiac, preceded by a partial recording of its greeting message. Received on 8/12/2556, 18:34 Earth Standard Time.

Setting:
You're a crew member on the Zodiac, a spaceship bound for a star system at the edge of the Andromeda galaxy. Unfortunately, the Zodiac hit a large asteroid while exiting hyperdrive, severely damaging the hyperdrive engines and leaving all but the most basic communications irreparable. The ship is already close to its destination, and its regular engines are still functional; however, it is much too far away from base to send any messages with its limited communications (any messages that would arrive within the next three million years, that is). The star system in question has five planets, one of which is habitable. Your best hope is to land the ship on that planet and wait for rescue or to try and fix the ship's engines yourselves. Rescue might not come for years, though, seeing as the Zodiac is the only one of its kind so far.

Other background info:
- This is a sci-fi setting, meaning that there are clones and warp pads (Beam me up, Scotty!) and laser guns. Use this however you want.
- The ship has enough supplies to last quite a while, at least a year. (The expedition was meant to last ten months.)
- The habitable planet's ecosystems are roughly Earth-like. There is one moon orbiting it. One day lasts a little longer than one Earth day.
- The Zodiac is divided into 12 sections, named after the 12 symbols in the zodiac. Ares is the cockpit, Taurus is the engine room, Gemini is the genetic lab, Cancer is the chemical analysis lab, Leo is the weapons room, Virgo is the on-ship greenhouse, Libra is the supply storage room, Scorpio is the barracks, Sagittarius is the common area, Capricorn is the quarantine cell (in case of dangerous substances), Aquarius is the water supply area, and Pisces is the airlock/spacesuit storage area.

RULES:
-All crew members are either human, androids, or AIs. No sentient alien species have been discovered so far, although there may be intelligent lifeforms on this new planet. Human characters should not have superpowers/abilities beyond that of a regular human, but they can own technological upgrades/special gear.
- Characters must be a minimum of fifteen years old. (It's the future, they're probably smarter there.)
- All posts must abide by CS rules. (No gore, explicit scenes, etc.)
- Powerplaying/creating all-powerful characters is not allowed.
- Participants must post a minimum of three times a week. (Please notify me if you're going to be gone for an extended amount of time.)
- Up to three characters are allowed per person. (If you want to use characters from a fandom, that's fine too.)
-Character reservations are effective for two days.
- At least one full paragraph (five sentences minimum) per post, please. Occasional writer's block is tolerated.
- Romance between different users must come with consent from both sides.
- Please post character bios in the discussion thread. Fancy coding/reference photos are handy but not required. Make your own character form.

Necessary crew members (unfilled, there can be more than one of all crew members except the captain):
Captain
Second-in-command
Engineer
Medic
Navigator/pilot
Security guard/weapons chief
Data collection team(biologists, geologists, etc.)

EDIT: At this point in time, new characters are limited to AIs, due to the fact that we've already crash-landed and killed the npc humans. The possibility of alien characters may open up in the future.

Let's get this RP started

Rikimaru twirled a pen in their fingers, bored. They sat lounging in the common area -just having woke up from a short nap. They wiped their eyes with their free hand and looked about the common room. Their eyes caught on the door, as if they were secretly hoping somebody would emerge through it.
Looking down, they flipped through their notebook and began idly organizing their notebook -adding page numbers, cleaning up scribbles, that sort of thing. They paged through it gently; this notebook possessed notes taken by the second in command on the psychology of the crew members, including themself, and would be useful in interacting with them throughout the isolation. They had left large blank spaces -pages worth- to add additional notes as the experience unfolded. It would be interesting to see how the crew reacted to this bleak situation.

Alec saw the impact before he felt it, the cameras stationed all over the ship shaking and sending him images of blurry but undeniably broken mechanisms. A moment later his status reports began to blow up with red flag after red flag- core engines were down; communications were down; one of the containers in the chem lab had exploded. His connection to the Internet cut off, and he found himself suddenly spreading his consciousness every which way as he dealt with what seemed like everything. Damage control, hyperdrive exit procedures, warning messages to the crew, turning the sprinklers on in the chem lab.

With a faint buzzing noise, Alec's hologram flickered into view in the cockpit, flashing red for emphasis. It was imperative that everyone know what was going on, to prevent panic- something that would undoubtedly create more jobs for him, when he already had his metaphorical hands full. (On that note, when were they going to be real hands? Building robots couldn't be that hard...) Despite the workload, though, his next words could have been better ones, especially seeing as they were also broadcasted over the speakers stationed throughout the Zodiac.
"Captain, we've been hit. The engines aren't working; transmissions'll be joining them soon. Hyperdrive is permanently decommissioned- basically, it's all gone to hell."

Philip was reading a book in the common room, sitting not too far away from the human. This was his first time he was actually working with humans other than his creators and a group of engineers. During the last two years, they had been running tests with him, improving and modifying his synthetic body as well as his internal programs. He wasn’t really used to social interactions yet and was still learning by watching them in silence, therefore it was not surprising that they often didn’t even take notice of him, for he was as quiet as it could get. No talking, no breathing, didn’t make any other noise, and the only time something could probably be heard if you listened carefully enough, was when he flipped to the next page, which happened about once every minute. Usually, it would take him less time to read a single page, but this book was written in Greek, a language he first had to get familiar with. He was already fluent in several different languages, however, there always seemed to be new ones to discover.

The sudden shaking made him look up from his book. While he hadn’t been on a spaceship before, he could tell that this was no good sign. Something was going horribly wrong. He put the book aside and got up from his chair. If he was a human, the AI’s words would most likely freak him out right now. Instead, though, he decided to go and see if there was anything that could be done.

Rikimaru jumped to their feet and began to stride to the cockpit, notebook quietly tucked under their arm. The second in command arrived, silent until they spoke in a firm Russian voice. "What happened?" They asked, hearing the transmission but wanting a fuller explanation. They looked across the controls, which made little to no sense to them, and bit their lip.

"No,no, no!"
Wesley flitted about the engine room like a butterfly on caffeine, going from console to console trying to fix the myriad problems coming in from all over the ship, while simultaneously trying not to get incinerated. The impact had knocked some of the plasma conduits loose, spraying deadly superheated gas into the entire Taurus sector. That had to be solved soon, if they didn't want to fry the back half of the ship and everyone on it.
"Minerva!"
A smallish pyramidal shape zipped up to the beleaguered engineer, bobbing gently on the soft glow emanating from its three hoverpads.
"You rang, Boss?"
"See if you can lock some of those conduits down," Wesley said, without looking up from the console, "I'd rather not get barbecued today. I'm going to try diverting power to the structural integrity field, see if we can stop ourselves from getting ripped apart."
"On it!" Minerva said, two slim grasping arms extending from The Owl's front-facing sides. The AI zipped forwards, plucked Wesley's plasma cutter from her tool belt, and set off towards the nearest conduit, forcing it back into its housing and welding it shut.
"Come on, baby," Wesley muttered as she worked, "don't fall apart on me now." Again without looking away from her task, the engineer's hand went to the communicator on her wrist. "Bridge," she said, "this is engineering. We're pretty busted up down here, that AI didn't tell you the half of it. I think I can get subluminal thrusters back online, but the hyperdrive's shot, and Taurus sector's a death trap. If you've got anyone you can spare, I need them down here, now, unless you want to float home."

Ƥanacea
xxxPanacea's duties to the biological sciences had them moving quietly between sectors of the ship during the usual "daylight" hours, studying the Zodiac's native flora and fauna, namely the humans and the plants the cultivated in the Virgo sector. They gathered extensive data on external drives to be further analyzed when the majority of the humans were asleep and assisted the science departments to the very best of their abilities. The "day" cycle had carried them from sector to sector more or less aimlessly on a short data collection spree but they had stopped to assist a few of the chemical lab workers with a chemical most humans would rather not touch, lending their own synthetic hands to the craft for a short time. The impact hit just as they were handling an acidic compound that would have torn through human skin.
xxxThe impact left them covered in the compound, watching in wide-eyed surprise as a nearby electronically locked chemical container sparked and ignited, exploding with a small but potent blast that knocked over two nearby chemists and left the ground in it's place charred and blackened. The moment after the impact passed with inexplicable slowness, the android's core processors struggling to assess the danger and severity of the situation, unable to process so much stimuli so quickly. The android's hands shook slightly, their head ticked slightly to the side twice, and then they were moving. Panacea grabbed a set of chemical proof gloves, the kind human scientist wore to keep chemicals out, and pulled them on over chemical soaked hands. They moved to the scientist, hauling each to their feet by the backs of their collars, and quickly shoved them toward the wall, away from the other chemical containers, head twitching once more as they struggled to control their body and process the situation all at once.

Σnyo
xxxEnyo had, in her stay aboard the zodiac, made herself a little home in the Leo sector among ammo crates and weaponry. From the moment she'd stepped aboard she'd been at a loss for anything to do; back on Earth she'd had opportunities aplenty to find trouble but out here in space in cramped quarters with her commission rely on protecting those around her rather than fighting them, she found herself completely and utterly bored. Life on the ship had been relatively peaceful, uncomfortably calm; there was little to no in-fighting and the general consensus of peace made her more than a little uncomfortable. Every piece of media had told her space was the final frontier, full of excitement; so far she'd seen nothing more exciting than the same metal walls and growing bacterial samples. With little to nothing to occupy her time Enyo had very few choices to entertain herself; occasionally she patrolled the ship, checked in on the scientists, did odd errands to keep things running smoothly.
xxxShe was perched on a stack of weapons crates when the ship hit the asteroid; she'd been cleaning her weapons, again, methodical and slow, even though she hadn't fired anything but a training shot since boarding the Zodiac. The moment the impact hit she was on her feet, slipping down from the crate pile and onto the shaking floor. She gripped the edge of a box nearby to steady herself and tapped a button on the inside of her armor's left wrist, lifting it to her mouth and attempting to channel into the ship's comm system. "What did we hit?" She asked, voice sharp, as she moved to the sector door. She hooked her pistol to the belt of her armor and snatched the helm of her armor from a nearby crate. "Are any of the sectors in danger?"

Alyssa had been sitting in the Ares, the cockpit of the Zodiac. Since she was the navigator/pilot of the ship, it was her job to make sure they were on course and know where they were going. Of course, since this was her first mission, she was not the one driving the ship. Suddenly, the ship shook. What had happened? She checked their route using her glasses. It seemed as if they were going off course. It seemed like they had been hit by something. But what? She tuned into the communication system of the Zodiac. It seemed like someone else had already figured out they had been hit by an object. "W-we're going off course!" she stuttered into the microphone. She was freaking out. This wasn't supposed to happen. "We need to use the hy-" Wait. The hyperdrives weren't working. There was no way they would make it back on course without repairing it.
