Pepperjack snuffled the slice of yellow, nose bobbing up and down. Its goop grazed her snout. Black eyes glinted curiously out of her cage to meet a second pair of brilliant, flashing lashes. Peering intently, her new owner towered over her home. Watching. Waiting. Wondering. Pepper scuffled away from the bars that held her, feeling confined.
