At the very mention of the word "humans", Flash's guard hairs stood on end and her fangs barred, anger piercing her heart like a hot metal blade. She was already prepared to snap at Luna for not immediately telling her, Death, or Snow about the scent; a growl was already bubbling in her throat. However, she forced herself to expel her anger in one hot breath when Luna went on to say why she had not reported it. Flash had always been one to anger quickly, so she often had to keep herself in check by swallowing her temper and convincing herself she was overreacting. Calm. She was in doubt because of the scent's faintness, and she had also been sick previously. It wouldn't be wise to alert an already frightened pack about something that might not even really be there. She closed her eyes and slowly relaxed her peeled back lips, then opened her eyes again when she felt she had properly controlled her anger. A moment longer in that state of mind and electricity may have started to crackle through her fur. When Luna said she was going to report it but could not find Flash, a bit of guilt settled in the Beta's stomach. She'd always thought it was a good idea to go on patrol first thing in the morning, but maybe now she should wait to see if anyone has anything to tell her first... This whole debate could have been avoided.

Giving another sigh, she nodded to Luna. "Thank you for telling us this." She turned to Death, her annoyance towards him gone as she got into a more professional state of mind. "We should go and check the meadows; see if we can pick up the scent again and figure out it's threat level." The beta once again turned to Luna. "Go find Snow and report your findings, so she is aware of where we are. We should-" The she-wolf stopped suddenly, a look of alarm coming over her face. She'd long gotten into the habbit of being fully aware of her surroundings whenever she did something, whether that meant talking, napping, flying, etc. She'd been listening to everything going on in camp while having this conversation, and now she noticed it was quieter than before... She took a quick look around, then widened her eyes. "Where are the pups...?"

Winter// with flame, galen, and apathmo

Winter's gaze locked fearfully on the human as his whole body seemed to freeze, every muscle seizing up in fear. He seemed so scared that his mind just went blank- he briefly forgot where he was, what he had been doing, and what it felt like to be carefree. All he could think about was the tall, looming shadow looking at them, slowly moving to lift up something. It resembled a long stick... His fear was broken when he heard Flame's whimper, causing him to look down at his friend. She was crouched low to the ground underneath Galen, trembling in fear. Despite being so scared himself, the dark pup bit his lip and slowly crawled forward, lowering himself to the ground and placing one front leg over Flame protectively. He proceeded to lick her cheek. "I-It's okay... I w-won't l-let it t-touch you..." He felt his stomach twist with guilt in response to his false promise, knowing full well that if that creature came towards her, he could do nothing to stop it. Heck, that thing looked big enough, and it wasn't even in front of them. Still, it was the thought that counted he supposed... He looked up helplessly at Galen, ears pinned back and brows knit together, silently pleading for the healer to help them.

Though his body language remained aggressive (and slowly got even more so when the human started to lift up a possible weapon), hints of confusion were on his face as he looked for Apathmo. The wolf was capable of blending in with his surroundings, so he could be anywhere. He scent seemed to be coming from the human's direction, and this was confirmed as the male's place when green momentarily flashed behind the human, signalling it was, in fact, Apathmo. Galen flinched when the color suddenly appeared, worried it'd alert the human, but the man seemed to not notice. He was still slowly lifting his weapon, making the healer's snarl grow louder. He then noticed Apathmo appeared behind the human, then flicked his ears with uncertainty, staring at Galen like he was waiting for orders. Apathmo, Winter, Flame, and the human to a degree were all waiting to see what he would do. He felt like whimpering himself; he wasn't used to this kind of pressure. Any kind of pressure he'd been subjected to involved things he could do on his own, in the safety of his den. Now it felt like he was on thin ice, and any direction he might go in could break that ice and send them all under... Sighing to calm his nerves, a plan slowly worked it's way into his mind. He lowered his head slowly to the pups, then quietly whispered, "When I say run, run back the way we came. Don't stop, don't look back." He then locked gazes with Apathmo and pretended to snap at the air, signalling for him to attack the human. His plan was for the pups to run the minute the human was distracted, then race forward to help Apathmo.

She nodded at the beta, " once I find Snow, should I tell her the pups are missing as well and join the search?" She said as she looked around for snow.

Flame stopped trembling slightly when Winter had come closer, but she was still frozen. She took a little comfort in his words and peered up at Galen, wondering what the healer was planning when he told them to run at his signal. Pressing her ears flat against her head, Flame huddled closer to Winter. Where's Ember? And Flash and Death and Snow and Luna?

Ember walked over to the two Betas and the Delta. "The pups aren't missing," She informed them, thinking back to earlier. "I sent them off to the meadow a little while ago with Galen watching them." Her eyes widened slightly. "They aren't in trouble, are they?"

Apathmo~Male~3 Years~Hunter
Apathmo watched as Galen leaned down and said something to the pups. When he snapped at the air, Apathmo nodded and took a deep breath to control his nerves. This human was on the territory of his pack, and was threatening the pups. In those two seconds, Apathmo began feeling very aggressive and wrathful. He let the feelings wash over his pelt since a bright red and maroon wolf was surely something to be scared of. Apathmo leaped at the human, a loud sound like that of a howl or snarl thundering out of him.

The beta still continued to scour the pack for the missing pups, her heart starting to pound faster. Think... Where were they last? Well, they were everywhere, but... Flame had run into that tree, and then Galen and Ember went over to check on her... Now that she was looking around, she noticed Galen was also missing. It brought just a smidgen of comfort, but not much. Maybe he's with them...? Flicking her ears back to face Luna, a shiver ran down her spine when the delta proclaimed them "missing". She took a deep breath to steady her nerves, then nodded curtly. "Yes. We should find the pups first, then go to the meadow..."

Just as she was ready to turn and leave the camp in search of the pups, Ember approached the group. She had apparently overheard their conversation, for she immediately said they were not missing. That brought more comfort, but she wouldn't be able to settle until they were safely in sight and the human smell was taken care of. She turned to the caretaker with an apprehensive look, silently questioning where they were. What Ember said next made the she-wolf's silver eyes widen and her heart drop. The whole world seemed to slow down for a few seconds, making her deaf to the red wolf's question about how safe they were. They were in the meadow. Of course. Snapping out of it, she shook her head and lifted her tail, taking on a dominant posture. "C'mon, let's-!" The Beta practically jumped out of her skin when a gunshot went off, her head whipping in the noises direction. No, no no no no- "The meadow!" She barked, then spun around and leaped high into the air, spreading her wings and swiftly flapping them down with force to get herself into the sky. If they were in danger, she doubted the humans would expect her from the sky.

The minute Apathmo began to shift colors, Galen howled "RUN!" to the pups and roughly shoved them in the camps direction with his muzzle. The human, clearly surprised by the attack, ended up triggering his weapon, causing it to go off with a loud bang. Galen flinched as bark exploded on the tree behind him, but he quickly shook it off and bounded forward, lunging at the human with a loud, beastly snarl. Such an appearance on the usually calm, peaceful healer was highly out of character; it would've come off as a shock to anyone that knew him. The man was already down and struggling to fight off Apathmo, so it was easy for Galen to join in on the attack. He stretched open his jaws and bit down hard on the man's arm, making him cry out in pain, forcing him to drop the weapon on the ground. Galen weakly pawed at it to try and get it away from the human's grasp, but the position he was in didn't give him much power to do so. Oh well, that didn't matter at this point. All that mattered was taking care of the human. Fangs still burred deep in the human's arm, he glanced to the side in search of the pups, wondering if they had made it to safety, but he couldn't afford to look for them long, so he quickly switched his attention back to the task at hand.

Winter// with flame, galen, and apathmo

The small pup gave a squeak of confusion and alarm when Apathmo suddenly appeared behind the human, then proceeded to lunge on the man. After that, things seemed to go by too quick to think about. A loud bang came from the man, followed by cries of pain as he disappeared under Apathmo's snarling form. Then Galen yelled at them to run and forced Winter in the direction of camp, just as bits of bark came flying off the tree behind him. Filled with too much fear to question anything, he looked back to Flame and frantically shouted "C'mon!" before taking off through the forest. His dark form flew over the land like a dark shadow, his little legs flying underneath him in a blur. He panted loudly as he raced away from the chaos, glancing back occasionally to check for Flame. At that moment, he was too preoccupied with getting to safety to even wonder if Apathmo or Galen would be okay, or what that loud bang was...

Flame yelped when Galen barked (haha see what i did there) at them to run and she dashed after Winter, careful not to trip. She couldn't risk using her powers, what if the human saw it? She was already unnatural enou-BANG. Letting out another yelp, Flame jumped slightly at the noise and sped up to run along side her friend. All of a sudden, a shadow passed over the two of them and she looked up, barely glimpsing the red blur that was her mother.

The caretaker could've sworn her body temperature had dropped drastically when she started to put two and two together. Taking a running leap, Ember morphed wings on her back, mimicking the winged wolf species. She caught a warm up draft and rose above the tree tops before angling herself downwards. She gained speed as she divebombed through the air towards the meadow, passing over Flame and Winter. She let out a snarl, spreading her wings to level out her flight pattern. As she approached Apathmo and Galen, who were both fighting the human, Ember gathered her fire energy, flames starting to trail from her mouth and she clamped her flaming jaws onto the human's leg (think of fire fang from pokemon).

Apathmo~Male~3 Years~Hunter
Apathmo wrestled the human to the ground and stayed on top of it until Galen joined the fray. The uncharacteristic behavior of the wolf temporarily distracted him, but he quickly refocused. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the two pups take off running back towards the camp. With an inner sigh of relief, Apathmo focused all his attention on subduing the enemy. He clamped a jaw on the human's shoulder, closing his jaw with all his might. He thought to human would surly give in, but then it jerked, and Apathmo could sense a warmth behind him. It felt like hot embers right under his tail. Seeing what Galen appeared to be attempting, Apathmo quickly released the human's shoulder and lunged at the weapon, snapping it up and, with a swing of his head, threw it into the nearby brush. Then, he turned back to the fray, unsure what he would see.

As swift as the lightning she could control, the beta female flew in the direction of the meadow, flapping her wings as hard as she could. Being high up in the air, it didn't take her long to locate the clearing and begin dive bombing down towards it, though she expanded her wings and flapped herself up last second when she spotted Galen, Apathmo, and now Ember attacking one human. Apathmo had even managed to throw the human's weapon away, and the human itself seemed to be slowing down in it's movements, so clearly it was no longer a threat. Her focus now was on the pups.

She flapped up and did a quick twirl in the air to turn herself around, then flew back over the forest, scanning down below for the children. Her heart was in her throat the whole time, fearful that she wouldn't find them; at least, not alive anyway... Her mind suddenly stopped when she thought what might have happened if Galen hadn't gone with them, causing another shiver to go down her spine, but she shook it off and forced herself to keep looking, albeit a little more frantically now. Then, through the thick tree canopies, she spotted a bright red pelt against the forest floor, then focused harder to see a darker one ahead of it. Relief flooding her system, she dove down between the trees and landed with great force behind the pups. "Keep going ahead!" She barked to them. They were old enough now to get some distance without needing to be carried, so she would just escort them back to keep them safe. Hopefully there aren't any more humans around...

Galen // with apathmo, ember, flash

Though the healer was thankful there were two others to help, he was beginning to get restless with the situation. With his jaws on the man's arm, Apathmo on the shoulder, and Ember on it's leg (using her flames no less), one would think the creature would have give up or died already, but no. It was still weakly trying to fight back, refusing to let it just be over, though it was obvious he wouldn't win at this point. Galen rolled his eyes and figured they'd been trying for too long, so with another loud snarl, he quickly released his hold on the man's mutilated arm and slammed his front paws down on it's chest, raising his head high and glaring down at the creature. The man looked back, but sent a twinge of guilt through the wolf's heart, for his gaze was weak and hopeless now. The healer decided this should now be about putting him out of his misery, not just vanquishing him. He dove forward with his jaws outstretched and clamped down on the man's neck, killing him in a few seconds. Though he could already feel the life escaping the human, he held his jaws there for a bit longer, just to be on the safe side, then solemnly raised his head and licked the blood from his teeth. "Alright," he panted. "It's dead."

Winter// with flame, flash

The small pup couldn't remember a time he had run so fast, or been so scared. At this point, he'd tipped his muzzle down slightly and ran through the forest like he planned on head butting someone, though his gaze was still trained on the path ahead. This position was taken to hide the tears in his eyes from Flame. Not only was it terrifying to go from happily frolicking through the meadow to almost getting killed by a human in two seconds, but he was also afraid of what could still happen. What if Galen died? What if Apathmo died? What if there were more humans, hiding in the shadows around them? Was it his fault? He'd been the one to suggest they go to the meadow in the first place... The pup choked on a whimper and continued going, then allowed the wind to dry his tears. No. He couldn't think about any of that now; he needed to make sure Flame got back to camp alright.

Suddenly, a larger figure landed with a thud behind him, making the pup yelp and twist around in a circle, desperately trying to both get a glimpse of the figure and put himself between it and Flame, though he was failing miserably. Thankfully, it was just the beta. "Flash!" He barked happily, about to race over and take shelter under her body. He figured she must have heard the loud noise and came looking for them. Did that mean Death, Snow, and Flame's mom were here too? The pup's thoughts were silenced when she commanded them to keep running, so he turned around and did as told. He was able to walk with more confidence now, knowing there was a grown up to protect them.

They're pretty rare, seeing as you have to have at least dormant shadow magic, then die, to become one. It's like a cruel way of rebirth. They're magic becomes more powerful, but always has negative side affects. It's rarer to see a Shadow Wolf with permanent mutations, unless they had mutations in their previous life. Oh yea, and lives are extended by say.... 50-100 years. (Slightly based off of Shadow Knights. owo)

Basic Description: A large but lean black wolf with a silver underbelly and red eyes, slight mutation, which is a star indented in his left forepad
Magical Abilities: Arrow has Shadow Magic. He's able to bend shadows to his will, make shadows to attack, and pretty much anything. He can't make animate objects, however.
Anything Else: Well... TIME FOR THE NEGATIVE SIDE AFFECTS. If he doesn't wear this necklace with a pendant, he turns into shadow and will eventually die painfully or be used as a servant by another shadow magic user. He can last for 3 days without it before starting to turn into shadows. Necklace description: a simple black cord with a clear shiny glass orb as the pendant, a blue orb in the center of the clear one, and it looks like a gold talon is grasping it at the bottom.
