What is a Nyrn?
"Just your typical friendly, berry eating, energy absorbing, fluffy buddy!"

Nyrn's are small to medium sized creatures that stand at around 40-50cm tall and weigh in at aproximatly 12-25kg. They can come in many colors and variation of patters, natural and unnatural.

Originally discovered climbing the trees at the tip of the mountains, they have retractable claws for climbing and a thick coat to withstand the cold temperatures. These creatures are adaptable and for this reason they have began to grow in popularity as companion animals. They are easily kept as pets as they are docile and usually easy going.


Nyrn are born with the gift/ability to absorb energies. Each Nyrn has a different type(s) of energy in which they can absorb. This absorbed energy can then be used as a special power. Nyrn are very well known for Orbing, which is when the Nyrn can use it's energy form an orb or psi ball, this is usually done as a way of showing off or focusing the power into one place. Nyrn have been known to play with psi ball to keep itself entertained.

• You may own a max of 10 Nyrn's (including Ny). 15 if you are an artist.
• Please do not change your Nyrn's design or redraw into another species. Do add accessories/items when you redraw.
• Please credit the Nyrn community by linking back your Nyrn to the adoptables page. You may take your Nyrn off site.
• Please be polite and patient. Begging will get you no-where.
• A Nyrn can only have up to 2 energies. (Most only have 1. 2 Energies are rare.)

Nyrn In Detail

Height
40-50 cm tall. (Approximately between the sizes of a Cocker Spaniel and Springer Spaniel dog.)

Diet
Herbivore. (Vegetarian)
They live on a diet of fruits and berries but pet Nyrn can explore new tastes.

Strengths
Adaptable.
Do well in all weathers and temperatures.
Skilled climbers.

Weaknesses
Prone to illness and fleas.
It's hard to stress them out but if they get stressed it can be very dangerous for them, many Nyrn have died of stress.
If their energy type is not around them and they are running low on energy they are unable to use their powers.

Appearance
Under that thick hanging coat of fur, the Nyrn is a bulky animal, with thick layers of muscle fat that helps keep them warm in colder climates but also aids them in climbing up trees and mountain ledges. Their fur is a thick double coat which can come in many colors and markings, it typically hangs downwards towards the ground.

Their heads looks larger due to their furry cheeks and hairy bearded chin. They have a rounded shaped head with a large pair of triangular eyes and a single love heart shaped nose. Usually pointed ears protruding from the top of the head and give the Nyrn great hearing. The neck is well protected by an extremely thick mane of hair down to the beginning of the shoulders.

Their legs are strong and heavy set which often makes the Nyrn unevenly gaited and sloppy in it's walk. The back legs are coated in a double coat down to the hocks unlike the front legs which are bare after the hairy armpits down to the wrist. They have sharp retractable claws but being herbivores, they only use these for climbing and protection. Their paws are relatively sized but appear larger due to the thick fur that insulates them from any snow or debris. Their paw pads have a thick layer of protective skin but are also sensitive to the touch.

The back is sloped in the center slightly but relatively straight. The hair at the top of the body is shorter than the fur falling from the underside. His body trails off to a long snake like tail that has a very short layer of fur until the pume at the end. This tail is usually used for balance when climbing and running.

Energies
Unlike most creatures with powers, Nyrn's are not able to create their own energy, they have to absorb it from their environment in order to transform it into powers. Nyrn's usually only have 1 type of energy they can absorb but on rare occasions they may have up to 2. These energies are absorbed when the Nyrn comes into contact with that certain energy, then they are either used in that moment (this is when they are strongest) or stored for later use. Energy that is stored becomes less and less powerful over time and will eventually disappear.

An example of this would be an Nyrn with the energy of water. When standing in a body of water, the Nyrn absorbs the waters energy. If the energy is used while the Nyrn is in contact with the energy, the Nyrn's powers are stronger because he has the ability to use as much energy as he can absorb. However if the Nyrn absorbs energy and then moves away, his powers will be weaker when used because he can only use as much energy as he can store. If the Nyrn does not use his energy then it will eventually disappear and he will have no energy in it's body and so would be unable to use any powers.

Nyrn's can often be seen playing with their stored energies. This is done when a Nyrn creates a psi ball or an energy ball, a compressed ball of energy visible to the eye, then plays with it for fun. It can also do this to show off how much energy the Nyrn has stored in it's body.


Behaviour
Solitary but social. Nyrn are extremely easy going, they are usually unsocial animals that live alone however they are also happy to accept the company of another Nyrn as long as they get space from each other when needed and don't feel to crowded. When they cross paths with another Nyrn, they are accepting of each other and may even spend time socializing for some time. As pets they often come into contact with other animals, most Nyrn's are relatively unphased by the presence of another animal unless they see them as dangerous, being herbivores they have no prey drive and so have no intentions of harming another creature. This make them good companions and when partnered with a human, a Nyrn can be an excellent best friend, they do love to be petted and so are usually very affectionate towards the person that feeds them and strokes them.

They are not the roaming type, they prefer to own a smaller territory with lots of food and water available. They spend a lot of their time sleeping or searching for food, they like the easy life.

Breeding
It takes 1 male and 1 female Nyrn to create a Ny (baby Nyrn). In the wild the male will often be a neighbor of sharing the territory with the female but when kept as pets this rule is not applied. Nyrn are rarely loyal to their mates over a long term but if they are very close they can become loyal partners.
Pregnancy lasts up to 5 weeks and the female usually gives birth to 1 to 2 Ny. The male doesn't really help out with the rearing of the Ny but a committed male will ensure his Ny and mate is protected by keeping guard over the territory and his family.
Ny are born blind and death, they require their mothers milk and warmth to keep them alive. As youngsters they are extremely venerable and prone to getting ill if they are moved around too much, the mother will often keep them housed in either a den, cave or pet bed. At 1 week old the Ny's begin to open their eyes and are able to hear sounds for the first time. They begin to move around and by 2 weeks old they begin to walk. By 4 weeks old they are weaned onto solid food and start being allowed to explore outside under the watchful eye of their mother.
It takes 1 year before an Ny is considered an adult and is allowed to leave home. They travel long distances to find a territory of their own, unless they are pets in which they stay where they are or get re-homed.

Origin
Discovered high up in the Tibetan mountains, hiding in the depths of the mountain top forests, the Nary was first discovered by a hiker. After it's discovery, many scientists started to travel to research the creatures and as the word spread, so came more and more tourists. It wasn't long before people started taking Nyrn's from the wild to be kept as pets. As a result of this, the location was closed to the public. However this did not stop the trade in Nary, illegal trapping and popular sales on the black market kept this species as a popular must have pet. The government quickly realized they needed to step in and regulate what was happening and so they decided to legalize the ownership of the Nary and allowed people to breed from already owned Nary in the hopes that it would stop the illegal trading. The plan worked and the illegal trade in Nyrn's did stop which meant the wild Nary could stay wild and the companion Nary could stay with their loved ones.
