Ashton cried out in surprise. He threw the demon off of him then quickly jumped to his feet. His hand rested in his pocket on the handle of his knife but something made him hesitate bringing it out.

Brooklyn sat alone on a short stone wall. She studied a small knife that she held in her hands. She ran her hand along the smooth side deep in thought. She was a mixed. She hated it. She hated demons and hated to think of herself as even part demon. She slid her thumb across the edge of the blade to test it's sharpness. Small droplets of blood formed, gathered, then dripped on to the ground below her. She stared at her thumb seemingly emotionlessly but truly feeling satisfied by her work of sharpening it.
