also, i'm thinking my icons could be priced around 1 recent uncommon or a late common? lightly edited ones, like my current one :>
Best advice I can give here in regards to your pricing is look at other shops and match them. If you get a ton of business for your code, you can increase the price; likewise if you don't get much business, lower the price. I would worth yours from a rare to a very rare, but I doubt the demographic for the site will pay that much for a signature unless you find a client who knows signatures that is willing to pay.
I am getting the worth prices based of my own experiences, of course I could be flat out incorrect since I don't keep up with signature shops pricing and the demographic as much as I used to. Going from the general logic I had, I priced things at a Very Rare or 2 rares for mine minimum, and there was a lot of work done to them, graphically and codingly.I would then increase the prices to see if the general audience still kept up with the signature demand, and it worked somewhat.
I hope this helps somewhat!

@jyushmatsu.
I would like to add to what Zey said.
Prices are based on, at least in my opinion,
on demand and experience. If you use
left columns for a sig, then
your prices are probably going to be
higher than someone who uses the normal
layout for sigs. Also, if you are pretty popular,
you can charge higher as well.
I think you should experiment on this. When I
started my first shop, I made my prices very
cheap (about two uncommons or any year
rare for a sig, most people did the uncommons).
I saw if people would pay more or less as a tip,
or if people would order while I was closed (which,
a lot of people do. do people really want my sigs
that much? lmao). My price is slightly higher now,
as I ask for 2 WL uncommons and a rare that is not
a '15 or '16 rare. (it's still cheap though, but people
always seem to overpay).
Your pricing should basically be around mine. Maybe
two or three uncommon WL's and a '14 and lower rare.
For CS dollars, maybe around 6 to 10 CS dollars.
hope this helped!

@jyushmatsu.
Left format is considered (well, again,
in my opinion) I guess a step up from
normal coding. It basically shows that
you have developed your coding skills.
left, center, and right is the average
format for normal coders (and what
I used till this year tbh)
I've been thinking about making a joint
shop this summer (ish), since I'm tiring of
the coding on my old shop, and I've edited
it too much to make new coding and all.
Maybe we could make one together? uwu

That sounds pretty awesome jyushimatsu., geeko., good luck in your shop endeavours!
Going to confirm that left signature creation is harder than the left, right, center to get done because traditionally, one learns the left right center first, so because of this it is considered harder. However, there are parts that support this as well.
- When you do a left left signature, everything goes to the left [obviously]. This can be a foreign concept to those starting out in code, especially younger audience members.
- The columns need to be the same length for it to work properly if you do it in pure coding. [Again, younger audience members might not understand this.]
- When you do Left Left, it is tighter which means for a full signature to be accomplished, you will need to do much more than just make a signature to fill the gaps. [Insert the above here]
- Images can be a pain with left left, and for those unexperienced getting the size right for these images can be a nightmare.
- The amount of help on DD needed for people trying to left left is interesting to note, it tends to be one of the most common things people ask for, they don't close off the [ left] code, or they don't understand columns in general and try to dive into the left left first. I have the left right center code listed before the left left code to try and combat this for this reason.
I find it interesting in observation, because one would think that left left signature making would be easy to make, but I think it took me 6 months and helping out regularly on DD in the old forum to get to the left left level that was adequate.

Coding is different for everyone. Most people, if not all, start with the traditional left, center, right coding. When it comes to developing the left style of coding, some may find it hard and confusing while some may not. I think that depends on factors such as age (as ZeyDaan said), experience, and knowledge. With me, for example, when I was making a signature, I decided that it was too spaced and needed to be closer. Then, I tried coding it to the left which worked. This was long ago, so it is hard to remember. I imagine it took a little bit to get the signature coded the correct way. That or I asked for some help. After I got that first signature coded, I am fairly sure for each signature, I just pasted the new coding in that format because I couldn't get it right. However, at some point I was able to code it from scratch. To me, left coding is definitely harder than normal coding and shows the coder has a complex understanding on creating signatures. I don't know where this conversation originated from, but I wanted to throw in an extra opinion. c:
Anyhow, I am reopening my signature shop for the summer because of all the extra time I have. This means there are spots open for whoever else would like to be a coder for the shop. Despite all the time I have, I can't run it on my own. I'm excited to be back making signatures for others. I've missed it this year. At this point, I think it's clear that I will only be able to run the shop during Summer for the next few years. Of course, if a moderator has the time all year, I'll probably pass ownership to them during the year and take it back during summer. I'm just thinking out loud here.
I hope everyone here has a fun time reopening shops, coming off hiatus, and coding signatures! Also, it if you are on break as well, have a wonderful time! Alright, I'm going to scadattle and get my shop transformed into a tropical theme. It's still wintry... D:

wowie has it been a while since ive posted here h a its been much too long since ive been around though, but im slowly trying to change that by somewhat answering questions and what not now |DD even if it is a bit late whoops
-
do you ever use/create signatures to 'vent'?
ALTERNATIVELY, does your mood affect your signature?
not particularly. at least not anymore uwu back then i used to do signatures that somewhat reflected on how i was feeling, but now a days i usually do signatures and coding based on a certain thing like, if it fits a character or what not, but mainly i just,,, take the lyrics of a song and try to match that because i myself listen to a lot of music and stuff when coding so. idk i take the lyrics and if its sad, ill make a sad sig or whatever |DD

@ asteria,
whoo, welcome to the club friendo :3c good luck with your shop also !!
@ jyu,
personally i myself dont like setting a price or what not, ive done it in the past but now im just a broke bum because idk what my coding is worth h a. normally i have it as pay what you want and let people gauge my work and what not. ive been lazy and slow so thats just me now a days. in the past ive charged what, about one to two wishlist pets or some uncommons?? i say it would really depend on yourself? like, idk charge what you think it would be worth but keep in mind the higher the price it could be harder??? yea i suck im sorry |DD normally when i charge higher, theres fewer people paying cause i know if i wanted coding or art or whatever, itd be a bit more hesitant with paying like what, a list pet. dont overprice yourself, but dont under price yourself either. your coding is cute !! but pricing wise, sometimes i feel like im just wasting my time to only be paid commons or not be paid at all, cause it happens sometimes to me whoops. i just like to do coding just for the heck of it tbh, so im probably not the best at this pricing thing :'3c i would offer a guest coding position at my sig shop but at this point we are getting nowhere cause everyones all busy ha h a whoops,,,
-
wow my post is getting so long h aha what is me anymore.
but on another hand, at this point im pretty much on the fence about coding for other people, aside from close friends |DD coding is a hard place to try to get paid for, either you dont get enough attention, you dont get paid all too much, or just youre just too busy with other things to even code. its been on my mind but im very much thinking about stopping whoops. that or im just a lazy bum but hey you want some questions from this sad plant?? cause ill give them to you anyways h a
- Code: Select all
have you ever tried coding in another person's/friend's style? if so, how did it go?:
have you tried anything new with your coding lately?:
i wont answer my own questions cause then my post would blow up but lately ive been procrastinating, but i did indeed try a friend's coding, my current signature and boy was that different. i personally enjoy her coding over my attempt at her style but hey, its been years since ive done a proper signature |DD im such a bum heh. on yet another note, im considering opening and expanding my prices to even dA points, and wowie i am very unsure about this |DD pricing wise, would you guys think 5 or 10 points be efficient enough for my sucky coding whoops just curious

have you ever tried coding in another person's/friend's style? if so, how did it go?:
When I started left columns, a lot of
my sigs were based off people that
I thought were good coders. My style
today is a mix of other people's styles
plus my own unique twist on things.
So yes, I have tried many times to code
in a persons style, and did it work out?
Um, sometimes yes, sometimes no. ^^;
have you tried anything new with your coding lately?:
I always do! I love experimenting.
For example, in my latest sig. I tried
to make a sig out of a video game, something
I had never done before. I experiment with
what I can do in left columns as well. Can I
do left columns in left columns? Can I do a right
in a let column? (Pretty sure you can actually
do both of this btw lmao). Experimenting is
something that I always love to do.
@nekoma
I personally think the prices should
be a tad bit higher. I'm don't know
the system of DA points too well.
but I know that 5-10 will not be enough
for your style of code. Maybe 10-15, or
15-20, which ever one you prefer. ^^
Speaking of questions, I have an
interesting one to ask:
- Code: Select all
What do you consider to be
professional BBcoding?
I'll make my answer simple for this. Once
you start using left columns, you're pretty
much what I consider to be professional c;
