Message me quick with your character and a quick bit about them to help me get inspired. Anything goes, may take more than are offered. May be graphite, colored pencil, or water color, mostly high realism. If it's any reference what it will look like, I have been asked if my traditional art is actually digital.

Hi guys!
Got a question on character ownership.

Let's say there's two people, A and B. While chatting, A and B come up with a new idea for a character and agree to draw it together and such. a makes a reference sheet of this character. B likes it. Then A makes another piece of art of the character, and B does not like it. B says that the character is theirs alone, and is taking all rights. A is not very happy, as they have put in loads of work to the character at this point.

A believes the character is co-owned.
B believes the character is only theirs.

Who's right? (A came up with backstory of the character and made two large pieces of art, and B came up with the name and personality and a bunch of other details.) This is a real life situation between me and a friend, and I'd really appreciate advice!!

It honestly depends on the conversation. If B said "Hey, I came up with a character, I need help with it." and A helped them come up with some details, then it belongs to B because it was their original idea. But if A and B were just spitballing around and came up with and contributed to the character equally, then the character belongs to both A and B.

@ssatellite Its both of yours. you guys came up with it together you guys own it together. In fact I would say A owns it since they are the one who actually created the character's reference sheet. B can own the personality and name portion. but A owns the character itself. imo
