@lunamoth19 ~ the bag over their face is to hide their true emotions, which is basically just sadness, so that's why they drew a happy face on it.

I agree that the fursona must represent the owner. Of course it doesn't have to represent them to a T, but I do feel it should represent then somehow. I've met people whose fursonas have nothing to do with them whatsoever, and to be honest I don't see how that's a fursona at all. To me, it's just a character that you are more attached to. Like, I have Ramona as my fursona, but I love my character Nathaniel probably twice as much as I love her. That doesn't make him my fursona, just means I'm more attached to him. But that's just me, I have nothing against those whose fursonas aren't anything like them.

Do you have a fursona? Tell us about them!
My First Fursona is Saishi. He's my one and everything and is with me since 6 years now i guess And since the end of last year, during a boring english lesson i created Calcifer my little cutie kitty <3

What do you think multiple fursonas?
I think multiple Sonas are totally okay ! I mean which person only has one character? Saishi is my "bad" side, while Calcifer is my playfull side

@Dee. The to a T thing is true. I don't think anyone fully knows themselves and as such they couldn't make a character exactly like them. One thing I've never been comfortable with people adding to their fursonas is mental disorders when the owner doesn't have that disorder. Idk things like that just feel off sense the owner is representing themselves with something they don't fully understand.
And for you character, i was guessing it was a shyness thing. Does he represent the more...depressing parts of you as a persona? Or your ability to deal with hardships?

I would like to start an actual flowing discussion. This means that this isn't just a answer the question in bold. This means I'll put something faily vague down and you all get to talk about it. Because someone asked about fursonas we will start with that.
I want to know from you all what qualifies as a fursona? And anything else that you all want to talk about with each other about fursonas.
If you are on mobile or simply don't have time to read alot of other's answers to this you may skip over it.
I think that a fursona in some way must represent the owner, preferably the entirety of the owner in some way. To me the fursona is the person made into a fluffy cartoon.

in my opinion, a sona should represent the owner in some way - whether this be who the owner currently believes themself to be, or what they would like to be in the future, or what they were like in the past, etc.. i don't think a sona necessarily needs to represent their owner completely/be exactly the same ! like my sonas aren't 100% me - for example, im not really into fashion whereas lynt is a fashionista p much cx i also think sonas can be symbolic [e.g. having a history which is symbolic for your own, symbolic markings] or literal [e.g. having a history which is p much the same as yours, same hair colour/style]
all in all, though, i really think the label of a sona should be up to the person themselves. someone could say that that character doesn't represent them, but, tbh, you can never really know what secret reasons people have and, as well as this, you cant really know what someone online is like in real life or how they view themselves c:

my best friend knows - she even has ocs herself ! [we LARP [live action roleplay] our ocs a lot... oops]
one of my sisters knows, mainly bc she brought up having book characters
and i ended up telling my school counsellor about them too !

@lunamoth19 ~ Yesss I've seen so many characters like that! One I've seen people give their fursonas a lot is ADD. And also depression. I have anxiety and depression but I didn't give those to Ramona because I like the idea of being confident in myself and my decisions which I'm usually not.

I'd definitely say Jacky is more of the depressive parts. I'm the type of person who jumps to help others, but then they aren't there when I need them, and I end up bottling things up and hiding it, which is basically what Jacky does. Jacky is all about others' happiness, but fakes their own because no one wants to help.

To me a 'sona is a representation of the owner if all the traits were exaggerated. I used to run for my school; my old fursona was a cheetah. I'm really good at blending into crowds? Shapeshifter. Etc
My fursona is autistic and bipolar because... I don't know how I'd portray them in any other way? They can't represent me if they wouldn't think like me. I don't know how neurotypicals think or react to anything lol
Tbh I tend to say all my characters are autistic since I gave them personalities slightly based on me and all *shrugs* No neurotypicals here.
Of course Folkvangr is more confident and self-assured than me but I'm not gonna say they're a completely different person by erasing my neurotype or I wouldn't feel any connection with them. It's all a part of me, you know?

I do, but I'm not exactly sure they class as a fursona'. I tend to call them my persona but y'know, there's no word for 'confused alien pretending to be a human'sona.
This is V'lan-ya of P'leri-D, who goes by the 'human' name of Merope Folkvangr and is only ever referred to as Folkvangr.

Primary shift form
They're a genderless alien shapeshifter of a race known as the Inhabitants, stranded on earth as a child. I wanted some way to explain non yōkai shifters in my universe other than 'magic' so I made it so Inhabitants have been living amongst humans for generations and the diluted genes passed down give non-yōkai 'humans' shifting abilities.
They work for an organisation called the Federation of Inter-Space Peace (FISP) and with their advanced technological knowledge, are an AI specialist and field weapons tester. They make all their own weapons to test out in the field, and have an AI companion they call Zyanya who is often in the form of a cat or a bird.

What do you think of multiple fursonas?
I can see why people have them, but I keep mine to one at a time. I still have one of my older fursonas, Mero the bakeneko, but she's 'retired' in the way that she very much represented a younger version of me and is now a character in her own right because I didn't want to scrap her familial relationships.
People can do whatever they want, I can see the advantages of it. I'm just too lazy to draw more than one.

Most of my friends do since we've been on this site together since we were preteens XD
My family know about Tsuyoshi, Folkvangr, Kyoukimi and Gyr because I draw them so much.

It can be a really great way to bond with people! Honestly, I've met some of my closest friends on here through that sort of thing! It's also a ton of fun!

How did you come up with your fursona?
Oh god. I went on a big rant to my friend about gender neutral sci-fi armour, designed Folkvangr's humanoid form and accidentally outed myself as nonbinary. Then their actual form came later.
I was on holiday? And I was talking with my dad joking about being the 'aliens' in the family. Then we moved on to creatures he'd designed for his book and he was having trouble with one. I sketched what I thought an alien predator would look like and we talked about it for a while. I fell in love with the idea and Folkvangr became a thing. That's it I think?

How do you deal with art stealers?
I report them. Then I tend to get really irritated and rant at a friend for a while. Healthy life choices.

What is your favorite character and why?
THIS IS SUCH A HARD QUESTION ahhhhh
Gyr or Tsu? I'm honestly so fond of them it actually pains me. I love my cuddly nerds <3 I think it's because they remind me of secondary school and the stories and headcanons my best friend and I used to come up with on the bus and in English class. I've had them for a good 5-6 years now, they mean a lot to me.
They started off as too-perfect ideal characters and through my writing and over time they've become flawed, relatable, have meaningful relationships and interactions with other character and are so much more real to me. The development and connection to my best friend is probably why they're my favourites.

Is any of your characters based off of something?
I mean Gyr's original concept was based off a gyrfalcon (surprise surprise).

How do you come up with character names?
I come up with their familial background and ethnicity, then spend a lot of time on 20000 names looking for the perfect name to fit their design, personality and backstory. Or I call them really literal things.
